TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University volleyball team wrapped up the Towson Invitational sweeping Baltimore-rival Morgan State (25-15, 25-13, 25-15).
Key Stats vs Morgan State:
- Towson totaled 43 kills while the Bears had 23 kills.
- The Tigers registered a .405 hit percentage compared to Morgan State's .037 hit percentage.
- Towson had only eight errors, but the Bears committed 20 errors.
- The Tigers had six service aces compared to two for Morgan State.
- Towson assisted each other 39 times versus 21 times for the Bears.
How It Happened vs Morgan State:
- Towson jumped out to an early 6-2 lead that was highlighted by Sarah Jordan's ace. Morgan State kept the score close until a 5-1 run to give the Tigers a 14-7 lead.
- The Bears brought the gap down to five, but Towson scored four straight points including two kills by Aayinde Smith to have a 20-11 advantage. The teams went back and forth to close out the first set, then Fay Bakodimou secured the set 25-15 on an ace.
- The second set started with both teams trading points, then Towson opened a 12-6 lead behind a 7-1 run that started on a Smith kill. Morgan State and Towson went back and forth, but the Tigers went on a 5-1 run to take a 19-9 lead.
- The Bears reduced the deficit to eight, then Towson scored four straight points to win the second set 25-13.
- The Tigers went back and forth to open the third set but took control of the set after going on a 12-3 run to have a 17-8 lead. The Bears fought back with a 6-2 run to reduce their deficit to five.
- Towson sealed the third set and the victory on a 6-1 run with Maya Scott scoring the last two points.
Inside the Numbers vs Morgan State:
- Seven Tigers had two or more kills with Nina Cajic leading the team with nine.
- Six players registered a .500 or higher hit percentage.
- Sarah Jordan compiled 20 assists to have her fourth game of 20 or more assists.
- Five Tigers earned a service ace with Fay Bakodimou leading the team with two.
- Morgan State never led in the match. The scorewas tied six times.
