Tiger Nation,
It's been a few months since our last communication, and I want to thank you once again for the warm welcome you have shown my family. As we settle into the community, I've enjoyed the conversations I'm having with so many of our great fans, alumni and donors. I remained humbled to lead this program into the future.
It is an exciting time here at Towson as we welcomed the students back to campus and began our fall sports calendar. This weekend features The Battle for Greater Baltimore as head coach
Rob Ambrose and the football team welcomes rival Morgan State to Johnny Unitas® Stadium for the first time since 2017. I am excited for my first home game to experience Saturday night under the lights in what should be an electric atmosphere after last weekend's thrilling overtime win at Bucknell.
Tickets are still available for all five home contests and several deals are available through our Ticket Office. Visit
www.towsontigers.com, call 1-855-TU-TIGER or email
dkogok@towson.edu for more information.
Beer sales have been added to the concession stands for ticketed events held at Unitas Stadium and SECU Arena. The new option for attendees 21-and-over brings Towson's events in line with other professional and Division I collegiate sporting events in the Mid-Atlantic region. There will be a new tailgate experience prior to Tiger football games this fall. Located in the corner of parking Lot 4, near Osler Medical Center, "Tiger Town" will feature food trucks, music and a fun gameday atmosphere for all. The area will be open when parking lots open four hours before kickoff.
Football gameday will also include a hospitality area behind the east end zone, sponsored by C&R Pub. The tent opens 90 minutes prior to kickoff and available to all fans free of charge and will be accessible from both the North and South stands while offering food and drink specials as well as an up-close view of on-field action.
Head coach
Don Metil has volleyball off to a blazing 8-0 start, which included a win over Rutgers in front of a record crowd last weekend behind Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) offensive player of the week Nina Cajic. Congratulations to Nina! The team is in Pittsburgh this weekend for the Panther Challenge where they they swept Bowling Green this morning and face American and No. 7 Pittsburgh tomorrow. Be sure to find your way to SECU Arena to support the women and check out the updated banner recognizing their historic 2021 CAA championship and third straight overall.
Women's soccer is off to their best start since 2007 after defeating Bucknell last night to move to 5-1-1. Coach Vettori and her squad are undefeated in their last five games and have posted five shutouts.
Field hockey is back at the TU Field Hockey Complex for three straight at home including two this weekend as Coach Jackson and her team takes on Rider at 4 p.m. on Friday and Ohio at noon on Sunday.
Cross Country and Track & Field have a new head coach as we introduced
Consandria Walker-Hall to town after successful assistant stints at Toledo and Northeastern as well as being the head coach at UMass-Boston for eight years. Women's cross country got its season underway on September 3
rd, finishing third at the Delaware Opener 5k.
Coach Walker-Hall isn't the only new face in the Athletic Department as Tony Bruno takes over our Towson swimming & diving programs. Coach Bruno comes to us from Fairfield University where he spent the last five seasons as head coach of their programs, earning conference coach of the year honors three times during that period.
Your continued support is what has carried this program through the difficult times over the past two years. The Tiger Athletic Fund reached a record number of donors in 2021-22, raising more than $4.34 million. We have also completed the first phase of our field house program, opening the Soistman Athletic Academic Achievement Center to support the scholarly pursuits of our student-athletes, keeping our focus on student success both on and off the playing fields. As you make your way to a game soon, look out for a new face in the Tiger Athletic Fund. Brian Finn was named Assistant AD for Development and Marketing strategies and began work this week. He is excited to get to know our donors and help us continue to grow the TAF.
As we look towards winter, we hope you make it a point to rallying behind our new women's basketball coach,
Laura Harper. Additionally, we will celebrate banner unveilings in SECU Arena for our defending CAA champion men's basketball program, as well as our women's basketball and gymnastics teams who also enjoyed 2021-22 postseason appearances.
Lastly, we hope you have taken note of the fun we had launching our "Goh Tigers" campaign this month as we look to develop a new tradition and connect Towson Athletics to our local roots while celebrating our community. If you missed it, take a minute out of your day to check out this video featuring the voice of Bryce Frederick of our baseball team:

I look forward to a successful fall campaign and hope to meet you in person if I have not already. If you find yourself on campus, please do not hesitate to say hello. I love to hear your stories and continue to learn what Towson means to you and your family.
GOH TIGERS!
