Towson Field Hockey Falls to Wagner

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Towson University field hockey team fell to Wagner 2-1 Sunday afternoon in non-conference play at the Wagner Field Hockey Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.

Sarah Hatfield scored the Tigers' lone goal on a penalty stroke.

Records:
  • Towson – 6-9, 1-4 CAA
  • Wagner – 2-11, 1-3 NEC

How it Happened:
  • After a Wagner foul in the attacking circle gave Towson possession, the Tigers turned the ball over to the Seahawks in their own end. This allowed Pilar Lorenzini to find Laura Van Hamburg on the opposite post, who put it away for the score.
  • Tessa Scheenstra made a diving stop on a penalty stroke awarded to the Seahawks a few minutes later to keep it a 1-0 game.
  • The Tigers were awarded their own penalty stroke after that, which Hatfield put away to tie the game at 1.
  • The Seahawks retook the lead in the opening minutes of the second quarter on a penalty corner where the inserter scored the deflection from the left post.
  • The Tigers posted five shots in the second quarter but didn't connect on the equalizer, making it a 2-1 Wagner lead at the half.
  • Scheenstra recorded three saves on six shots in the third quarter.
  • After a scoreless fourth quarter, the Tigers fell 2-1.
