Women’s Soccer Clinches Top Two Seed in CAA Championships with 3-0 Win at William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Towson women's soccer picked up win number 12 of the year with a 3-0 victory at William & Mary on Thursday night. The Tigers got an early goal from Jasmine Hamid to take the lead and never look back.

Towson (12-2-2, 8-1-2 CAA) picked up an important three points to stay in the top two of the league standings. With the win, the Tigers have clinched at least the two seed in the upcoming CAA Championships and will be a host site. The Tigers can win the CAA regular season title and the one seed with a win against Hofstra on Sunday.

  • Hamid netted two goals in the win for her 12th and 13th goals of the season.
  • Nia Christopher added a goal in the win to give her 11 for the season and also had an assist.
  • Towson outshot the Tribe 13-9 with nine shots on goal. Christopher led the way with four shots with Hamid and Phoebe Canoles adding three each.
  • Riley Melendez picked up the win with two saves.
How It Happened:
  • Towson got out on the front foot early with Phoebe Canoles getting a shot on goal in the first minute.
  • The Tigers would break through in the 11th minute. Jasmine Hamid would find the ball at the top of the box after good build up. She would turn and rip a left footed strike into the top right corner off a feed from Nia Christopher to give Towson a 1-0 lead.
  • Both teams would battle for possession in the middle portion of the half with both defenses holding off the other side.
  • Phoebe Canoles would have another good look late in the half off a cross from Jasmine Hamid, but her shot was saved.
  • Riley Melendez came up big with under 10 minutes left in the half, pushing away a shot in the box off a free kick to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead at the break.
  • After the Tribe controlled play to start the second half, the Tigers would capitalize on a turnover.
  • Nia Christopher slotted home a pass from Rebecca Groseibl off a turnover to make it 2-0 in the 53rd minute.
  • Towson continued to apply pressure. After a flurry of shots, Jasmine Hamid drew a penalty kick in the 63rd minute but her shot would go just wide.
  • Hamid would get another chance with a penalty in the box less than three minutes later. This time Hamid would score to make it 3-0 with her second goal of the game.
  • The Tigers would continue to control play the rest of the way for a 3-0 win on Thursday.

  • Jasmine Hamid now leads the team with 13 goals.
  • Jacey Miller became the first Tiger to play in 80 career games, adding to her program best in career games played.
  • The Tigers won their 12th game of the season, tying their win total from 2022. The program record for wins in a season is 14.

  • Towson will conclude the regular season on Sunday, Oct. 22 against Hofstra at Tiger Field. Kick-off against the Pride is set for 1 p.m. on FloFC. The Tigers can win the CAA regular season title outright with a win against the Pride.
