Towson Volleyball Completes Comeback to Win Fifth Straight Match

BOX SCORE GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Towson University volleyball team faced off against the North Carolina A&T Aggies on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers (18-5, 11-2 CAA) won a back and forth match against the Aggies (8-13, 6-7 CAA) in five sets 25-10, 16-25, 28-30, 25-17, 15-11.

Victoria Barrett led all players with 19 kills on .333 hitting percentage and two solo blocks. Nina Cajic earned her fifth double-double of the season with 18 kills and ten digs. 

Key Stats vs N.C. A&T:
  • The Tigers finished with a .289 hitting percentage, including a .700 tally in the first set.
  • Towson held the Aggies to a .146 hitting percentage.
  • The Tigers had 70 digs, the third highest total this season.
  • Towson had more than 50 assists for the eighth time this year with 58 today.

How It Happened vs N.C. A&T:
  • Towson opened the first set with a 3-1 run, getting three kills from Victoria Barrett, but the Aggies responded with their own 3-1 run to tie the score at four.
  • The teams exchanged a couple of points, before Towson went on a 6-1 run to take an 11-6 lead.
  • Both teams continued to battle back and forth before the Tigers closed out the first set on a 10-1 run that included seven consecutive points to win the set 25-10. 
  • Towson jumped out to a 7-3 lead to start the second set getting two kills apiece from Nina Cajic and Erin Brothers.
  • North Carolina A&T responded with a 9-3 run to have a 12-10 advantage.
  • Towson cut the deficit down to one, then the Aggies went on a 7-1 run to earn a 20-13 lead.
  • The Tigers tried to spark a comeback with back-to-back kills, but North Carolina A&T finished the second set on a 5-1 run to take the set 25-16.
  • Towson started the third set with a 3-1 run, but the Aggies countered by scoring five of the following six points.
  • The teams traded small runs, then North Carolina A&T went on a 6-2 run to have a three-point edge. 
  • Towson responded with a 8-3 run to have a 20-18 lead, getting three aces from three different Tigers.
  • The Aggies regained the lead after four consecutive points, then the Tigers countered with four straight points themselves to reach set point.
  • North Carolina A&T went on a 3-0 run to reach set point, but a Cajic kill and an Aggie ball handling error gave Towson its third set point.
  • A Maya Johnson kill leveled the score at 26, but Cajic's sixth kill of the set gave the Tigers a 27-26 edge.
  • North Carolina A&T scored consecutive points to reach its third set point, but a service error tied the score at 28.
  • Kaili Doctor's back-to-back kills sealed a 30-28 third set victory for the Aggies.
  • The teams started the fourth set battling back and forth, tying the scoreline six times before North Carolina A&T took a 10-8 lead.
  • The Tigers regained the lead after a 5-1 run led by Barrett's two kills to have a 13-11 advantage.
  • The Aggies knotted the set at 13 apiece after back-to-back kills, but a 7-2 run gave Towson a 20-15 edge.
  • North Carolina A&T tried to make a late comeback, but the Tigers closed the set with five unanswered points to win the fourth set 25-17.

  • Erin Brothers finished with a career-best nine kills on .500 hitting percentage.
  • Sarah Jordan earned her second straight double-double with 46 assists and 15 digs.
