CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Towson women's soccer took an early lead against No. 13 North Carolina, but the Tigers saw their historic season end with a 3-1 loss in the NCAA Tournament first round on Friday night. The Tigers held the lead for most of the first half, but a late goal tied it going into halftime.
Towson (15-3-2) ends their season with their most wins in a single season, making their first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.

How It Happened:
- Towson got out on the front foot early. Rebecca Groseibl and Nia Christopher each had looks in the opening two minutes that just went over the bar.
- UNC would respond with a pair of good looks including a one-on-one with Riley Melendez who made a great sprawling save.
- The Tigers would continue to apply pressure in the early stages of the half. Phoebe Canoles found the ball inside the box but just placed her shot outside of the net.
- Christopher took a great feed out of the back from Riley Melendez in the 24th minute but her shot was saved.
- Jasmine Hamid would put the Tigers in front in the 25th minute. Hamid made a move into the middle of the field and put a shot on net that was deflected off a defender and in to give Towson a 1-0 lead.
- The Tar Heels would convert late in the half to make it 1-1 going into halftime.
- UNC would get a goal in the 60th minute to take the lead after applying early pressure on the Tigers.
- Following the goal, Riley Melendez would make a series of big saves including a team save to keep the deficit at 2-1.
