CHARLESTON, S.C. – Towson men's basketball fell 65-39 in their finale at the Shriners Children's Charleston Classic against North Texas on Sunday afternoon.
Christian May led the Tigers with 12 points, the lone Tiger in double figures.
Towson (2-4) had eight players score in the contest with
Mekhi Lowery chipping in eight points in the loss. The eight points resets his career high that he had against Houston on Thursday.
Key Stats:
- Lowery went 3-5 from the floor with a team-high seven rebounds, adding an assist, two steals and two blocked shots.
- The Tigers assisted on nine of their 14 field goals and corralled 11 offensive rebounds.
How It Happened:
- Towson would get a bucket on the opening possession with Tyler Tejada converting on a driving layup. However, the Mean Green would go on a quick 5-0 run to force an early Towson timeout.
- The Mean Green would get out to a seven-point lead at the under 12 timeout, holding Towson scoreless over a 2:49 stretch.
- The Tigers would continue to struggle from the floor going scoreless over six minutes as North Texas extended their lead to nine. Messiah Jones would end the drought with a tough layup.
- Towson would get a driving layup from Tomiwa Sulaiman and free throws from Christian May at the end of the half to make it 40-18 at the break. May led the Tigers with five points.
- Towson would hold the Mean Green scoreless over a two-minute stretch that saw Mekhi Lowery hit a hook shot in the lane. That would spark a run that saw Christian May hit a three and Lowery finish off a steal to force a UNT timeout.
- North Texas would respond with a 7-0 run over a 3:22 span to push the lead back over 20 points.
- The Tigers would battle late but drop a 65-39 decision to the Mean Green on Sunday.

- Charles Thompson moved into sixth place in career games played with 123, passing Nicolas Timberlake at 122. He also moved into tenth with 89 games started.
