TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University volleyball team took on the Elon Phoenix Sunday in the Tigers' final home match of the regular season. The Tigers (21-5, 14-2 CAA) swept the Phoenix (5-20, 2-14 CAA) 25-14, 25-18, 25-15.
Zyare Abdul-Rahim had eight kills on .571 hitting percentage and added three total blocks.
Nina Cajic had nine kills on .308 hitting percentage with two aces and two total blocks.
Key Stats vs Elon:
- The Tigers held Elon to a .032 hitting percentage, which is the second lowest total for the Phoenix this season.
- Towson had with seven aces for the third time this year.
- The Tigers finished with a .320 hitting percentage, including a .448 hitting percentage in the first set.
- Towson had only nine attacking errors compared to Elon's 21.
How It Happened vs Elon:
- Towson started the first set with a 12-4 run that included six straight points and three blocks by Erin Brothers.
- The Phoenix responded with a 5-1 run to cut the deficit to four, but the Tigers countered by scoring seven of the following nine points to have a 20-11 lead.
- Towson finished the first set with a 5-1 run capped off by a Sydney Stewart ace to win the set 25-14.
- Towson opened the second set with a 12-5 run with three of the first four points coming off blocks for the Tigers.
- Elon went on a 6-3 run to trim the deficit to four, but a 3-1 run by the Tigers gave Towson an 18-12 advantage.
- The teams traded points back and forth, then the Phoenix went on a 4-1 run to trail 20-17.
- The Tigers closed out the second set with a 5-1 run that was capped off by a Nina Cajic ace to win the second set 25-18.
- The teams started the third set battling back and forth, tying the score eight times.
- With the score knotted at 14 apiece, the Tigers went on a 3-1 run to have a 17-15 edge.
- Towson finished the third set by scoring eight unanswered points to teak the set 25-15, getting three kills apiece from Zyare Abdul-Rahim and Cajic.
