Timberlake Nets a Career-High 34 Points; Towson Falls 83-75 at Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Towson men's basketball battled, but fell 83-75 at Charleston on Thursday night. Nicolas Timberlake netted a career-high 34 points in the loss.

Timberlake went 11-17 from the floor, going 6-11 from three. Rahdir Hicks, Cam Holden, Ryan Conway and Christian May all chipped in seven points in the loss.

  • The Tigers shot 47 percent from the floor and went 45 percent from three.
  • Towson assisted on 13 of their 26 buckets, scoring 14 points on the fastbreak.
  • Charles Thompson recorded his 1,000th career point, adding a team-high nine rebounds.
How It Happened:
  • It was a frenetic back and forth pace early on. Towson would retake an early lead off back-to-back steals and finishes by Rahdir Hicks and Nicolas Timberlake.
  • Charles Thompson would finish a dunk early in the first half scoring his 1,000th career point.
  • Towson would take their largest lead of the half after a Timberlake three put the Tigers up six.
  • Charleston would claw back by the under eight timeout to tie it.
  • Both teams would struggle from the floor, but Timberlake once again put the Tigers up by four with a three with under two minutes to go.
  • Leading by one, Cam Holden grabbed a missed shot, gave the ball to Hicks who beat the buzzer with a running three to put Towson up 38-34 at the break.
  • The Tigers would end the half connecting on five of their last six shots, shooting 45 percent from the floor and 44 percent from three.
  • Towson would continue where the left off the half with Nicolas Timberlake connecting on five straight to give Towson a 45-38 lead at the under 16 timeout.
  • The Tigers would rattle off five straight points to take their largest lead of the night at ten, forcing a Charleston timeout.
  • Charleston would use a 6-0 run in the middle part of the half to pull within two at the under eight timeout.
  • The Cougars would rip off an 18-3 run to pull ahead by seven before a Charles Thompson free throw and Nicolas Timberlake three ended the run.
  • Ryan Conway hit a three to tie it with under seven minutes to go, but the Cougars took the lead just two possessions later and hold off the Tigers the rest of the way, 83-75.
Inside The Numbers:
  • Charles Thompson became the 30th player in Towson program history to record 1,000 career points early in the first half.
  • Nicolas Timberlake hit the 30 plus point mark for the third time this season. Timberlake also moved into ninth on the all-time scoring list, passing Bill Leonard. Timberlake is now up to 1,474 points this season.
