TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team took down Marist 12-4 on Wednesday afternoon, powered by strong pitching and clean play in the field at Schuerholz Park.
Towson (6-12, 1-2 CAA) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning on four hits and an error over Marist (2-13, 0-0 MAAC). Marist got on the board in the sixth on an Ethan Conrad single to left. In the bottom of the inning,
Casey Bishop hit a sacrifice fly to right field, making it 6-1. Marco Ali had a sacrifice fly of his own in the top of the seventh, making it 6-2. Niko Amory led off the eighth with a home run to right field. After a single and two stolen bases, Johnny Decker scored on a wild pitch, making it 6-4 Towson. The Tigers cemented the game in the bottom of the inning, picking up six runs on two hits and two errors to close it out 12-4.
Key Stats:
- Brett Seils tossed 4.0 scoreless innings, allowing just four hits while striking out seven batters and hitting one to start the game.
- Despite being outhit 11 to nine in the game, Towson picked up two multi-hit games from Reyce Curnane and Casey Bishop. Each recorded a multi-RBI game along with Jordan Peyton.
- The Tigers errorless play in the field helped them secure the win. It marks the team's sixth errorless game of the year. The Tigers are now 3-3 in those games.
How it Happened:
- The Tigers gave up just one hit in the first inning, with Brett Seils fanning two. Seils followed that in the second with three more strikeouts, bringing his total to five through two innings.
- Towson jumped out to a five-run lead in the bottom of the inning. Reyce Curnane started the scoring with an RBI triple to right center with a runner on first. Peyton followed with a single to right center, scoring Curnane. Josh Janove hit an RBI double to right center with Peyton on second to score the third. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, Janove scored on Casey Bishop's single. James Moses tacked on the fifth run on a wild pitch.
- With Bobby Spencer on the mound, Ethan Conrad's single to left field allowed Marist to score its first run of the game from second.
- With runners on second and third, Casey Bishop hit a sacrifice fly to right to make it a 6-1 game after six.
- Marist got one more across in the seventh on a Marco Ali sacrifice fly with runners on the corners.
- Marist escaped a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the inning, forcing a double play to end the inning without allowing a run to score.
- Niko Amory led of the eighth with a home run to right field, making it 6-3 Tigers. Johnny Decker followed with a single to right, ultimately scoring from third on a wild pitch after two steals.
- With the bases loaded in the eighth, Brian Heckelman hit a single to center field to score a run for the Tigers. Moses scored on the following at-bat on a fielder's choice putout at third base. Later in the inning, Wagner walked with the bases loaded to make it 9-4 Tigers. With Curnane at the plate, a ground ball went through the second baseman's legs, allowing two more runs to score for Towson. On the following at-bat, Peyton hit a ground ball to second. The shortstop's throw on the double play transfer pulled the first baseman of the bag, allowing Peyton to reach safely and one more run to score for Towson.
- Nate Nabholz closed out the game with 2.2 innings pitched, surrendering two runs on two hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
Inside the Numbers:
- Seils struck out seven batters faced, topping his previous season total of three strikeouts. He also recorded his second multi-inning scoreless appearance of the season.
- James Moses extended his on-base streak to 15 games with one hit and two walks on the afternoon.
- Casey Bishop extended his hitting streak to seven games, tying James Moses' earlier streak for the highest of the season. He also picked up his eighth multi-hit game of the season for the team lead.
- Reyce Curnane picked up three hits and three RBI in his third game played this season. He extended his on-base streak to three games, picking up a multi-hit and multi-RBI game.

Towson will host CAA-foe UNCW this weekend from March 17-19. Friday's game is set for a 3 p.m. start. First pitch on Saturday and Sunday will be 1 p.m. at Schuerholz Park.
