How It Happened:
  • Towson earned the opening possession as Mikey Weisshaar swam around a pair of defenders to get to the goal, scoring close range.  The teams went back and forth as Towson held on Stony Brook shots, including an Evan Long save near the right post towards the end of the shot clock.
  • A behind-the-back shot by Weisshaar reset the shot clock for Towson on offense.  Kyle Berkeley found Nick DeMaio emerging from behind the cage as DeMaio threw a ground ball shot to the left of the keeper's feet for the goal, giving Towson a 2-0 lead with 7:06 left in the first.
  • The defense kept holding off Stony Brook as a Long save led to Garrett Zungailia clearing.  Weisshaar again pulled a defender then found Ryan Schrier straight away for the shot and score for a 3-0 Towson advantage, 3:46 in the first.
  • Stony Brook got on the board 30 seconds later, then Towson held on the next chance on a blocked shot.  Each Long and Jamison MacLachlan made doorstep saves towards the end of the quarter as Towson led 3-1 after one.
  • Immediately into the second, Rena Conlon won the faceoff and scored lower corner.  Towson got the goal back minutes later on a long possession as Joaquin Villagomez passed across the middle to Berkeley for the hard shot and score.
  • The two teams went several minutes without scoring as each defense had physical play to adapt with the rainy conditions.  Stony Brook broke the pause with two goals in a span of 70 seconds to tie the game.  The teams were tied at the half 4-4.
  • Into the third, Towson got a second chance off a missed Matt Constantinides shot as Josh Webber passed off to Berkeley for the line drive shot and score for a Towson lead.  Stony Brook equalized a minute later off a wraparound move by Dylan Pallonetti.

  • After SBU scored to even the game again, the two sides exchanged possessions, Towson a long one and SBU and short one.  The other way, Towson, facing seven defenders on an SBU offsides, DeMaio found Schrier on the doorstep for the goal to send Towson back ahead.  Stony Brook again scored on its next possession from Caleb Pearson to even the score at 8-8.
  • Towards the end of the third, as SBU tried to get the ball away, DeMaio grabbed the ball straight away from goal.  With four seconds left, a laser shot and score gave Towson a 9-8 lead after three quarters.
  • Towson had the first chance in the fourth off a won faceoff, but a DeMaio shot was saved top shelf.  SBU went the other way and scored off a Matt Anderson close range shot.
  • The high-paced action continued as Webber found Schrier in transition for the open look and score.  Again the Seawolves tied the game off a Will Button goal.  The teams were tied 10-10 with 10:19 to play.
  • Towson retook the lead off a dodge from Weisshaar to open a lane and a shot for the score with 7:14 left.  Following a Towson turnover, Pallonetti emerged from behind the cage to score on the run.  A minute later, Anderson scored in the top corner to give Stony Brook a 12-11 lead with 4:43 left.
  • The next possession, Berkeley made a dodge to shake his defender and scored on a line drive to the upper left corner to tie the game.  Towson gained possession on a faceoff win, with a Schrier shot being saved on the doorstep.  Schrier raced towards the substitution box to push out the clearing player and give Towson another chance, but Stony Brook regained possession on a turnover.  With 44 seconds left, Anderson scored on a straight away shot to push the home team ahead 13-12.
  • Towson got the faceoff but could not get off a shot, falling to the Seawolves 13-12.
