Towson Softball Wins 9-5 Thriller; Game Two Suspended Due to Inclement Weather

TOWSON, Md. – Towson softball picked up a thrilling 9-5 win in extra innings against Drexel on Saturday. Kristin Toland provided the heroics with a walk-off grand slam in the ninth. 

Towson (15-15, 5-5 CAA) snaps a four-game losing streak with the win. Game two was suspended due to inclement weather in the fourth inning. The game will resume with Towson leading 4-2 tomorrow at noon. 

Key Stats – Game One: How It Happened – Game One:
  • Drexel would get out to an early lead with a run in the first inning.
  • After the Dragons took a 3-0 lead, Towson fought back with a run in the second. Madyson Peters led off the inning with a double and would later score on a Kristin Toland RBI ground out to cut the deficit to 3-1.
  • Towson would make it 3-2 after the third with a bases loaded walk by Peters to score Briana Ramirez.
  • Drexel would get a run back in the fifth to make it 4-2 before Peters and Cara Bohner tied it with and RBI double and RBI single respectively. 
  • Both teams would fail to score the rest of the way as the game headed to extra innings. 
  • Towson would end a thriller with a grand slam from Toland in the ninth to take game one 9-5.
How It Happened – Game Two:
  • Towson would waste little time getting started in game two. Briana Ramirez led off with a single and would score on a Mackenzie Lake double to make it 1-0. 
  • Cara Bohner would continue her strong day with an RBI single to make it 2-0 after one.
  • The Tigers would take a 4-2 lead into the fourth before the game was suspended due to inclement weather. 
The Tigers and Dragons will close out game two at noon with game three to follow 30 minutes following the conclusion of game two.
