TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team dropped Sunday afternoon's rubber match against Elon 4-1 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play at Schuerholz Park.
Elon (19-9, 10-2 CAA) put up two runs in the first on a single through the left side with runners on second and third. The Phoenix tacked on two more in the fourth on a single to right and a bases loaded walk. Towson (8-22, 2-10 CAA) got one back in the fifth on a bases loaded hit by pitch. The Tigers put five hits in play in the last four innings but couldn't come up with any runs to extend the game.
Key Stats:
- Jeremy Wagner batted 2-for-4 with a walk in the game. Reyce Curnane finished 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
- Towson starter Brett Seils (1-3) recorded the loss after allowing four runs on six hits in three innings. Towson relievers Nate Nabholz and Cam Clark combined for six scoreless innings pitched with four strikeouts while allowing four hits.
- Elon starter Justin Mitrovich (4-2) picked up the win with one run on six hits allowed in 5.1 innings with five strikeouts. First baseman Cole Reynolds finished the day 2-for-3 with an RBI and two walks.
How it Happened:
- A walk and a single in the first put runners on for Elon. They moved to second and third on a groundout to second base and were both knocked in on a Luke Stephenson single through the left side to make it a 2-0 game.
- In the fourth, a single and steal put a runner on second for the Phoenix to lead off the inning. Kenny Mallory Jr.'s single to right scored that run from second. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Cole Reynolds' walk made it a 4-0 game.
- With two outs in the fifth, the Tigers rallied with three singles in a row to bring up Reyce Curnane. Curnane was hit by a pitch to put the Tigers on the board.
- The Tigers had five hits over the last four innings but couldn't push the necessary runs across to extend the game.
