CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. – The Towson University baseball team fell 13-4 against the Virginia Cavaliers Wednesday evening at Disharoon Park in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Towson (13-29, 3-15 CAA) jumped on the board in the first courtesy of a
Reyce Curnane home run. Virginia (34-9, 12-9 ACC). The Cavaliers took a two-run lead in the home half on five hits. With the bases loaded in the second, a single to right field plated two more to extend Virginia's advantage. Curnane knocked home a run in the third on a single up the middle to make it a 5-2 game. The Cavaliers extended the lead to five with three hits in the bottom frame.
Bryce Frederick's single to right with the bases loaded in the fifth brought it to 7-4. UVA got one more across in the sixth to extend the lead to four. Virginia plated five more in the eighth on five hits to make it 13-4. With no runs scored in the top of the ninth, that was the final.
Key Stats:
- Reyce Curnane went 3-for-4 at the plate, including two RBI and a home run. Bryce Frederick went 1-for-5 with two RBI in the game.
- Towson starter Shayne Clowar (0-5) took the loss with three earned runs allowed on five hits in an inning of work. Luis Rivera struck out the side in one inning of relief work.
- Virginia reliever Bradley Hodges (1-0) recorded the win in relief with two earned runs allowed on one hit in 2.2 innings while notching three strikeouts and four walks. Catcher Kyle Teel batted 5-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored.
How it Happened:
- Reyce Curnane put the Tigers on the board in the top of the first inning on a solo home run to right field.
- In the bottom frame, two singles put runners on the corners before a balk tied the game. Back-to-back singles to follow gave Virginia a 3-1 lead.
- Andalo Santangelo relieved Clowar to start the second. After a pair of singles and a hit batter loaded the bases, Kyle Teel's single to right field plated two more for the Cavaliers.
- In the third, Curnane picked up his second RBI of the game on a single up the middle with a runner on third to cut the Tiger deficit to three.
- With runners on second and third, a sacrifice fly and single each plated a runner to make it a 7-3 game in favor of Virginia.
- In the top of the fifth, three walks loaded the bases before Bryce Frederick knocked home two on a single to right.
- After a double to lead off the bottom of the sixth, a single sent home another run for the Cavaliers to make it an 8-4 game.
- UVA tacked on five more in the eighth on five hits, including four in a row to start the inning.

The Tigers visit Boston to face Northeastern for a three-game series in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play from April 28-30. Friday's start time is 2 p.m. First pitch Saturday and Sunday is set for 1 p.m.
