Towson Baseball Downs Georgetown at Schuerholz Park

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team's strong performances at the plate and on the mound lifted the Tigers to victory 7-2 over the Georgetown Hoyas at Schuerholz Park Wednesday afternoon.
 
Towson (14-32, 3-18 CAA) got out to a lead in the first on Reyce Curnane's solo home run. Georgetown (24-21, 7-7 Big East) knotted it up on a single up the middle in the third. The Tigers posted four runs on five hits in the home half to make it a 5-1 game. In the sixth, a passed ball and fielder's choice ground out scored two more for the Tigers, bringing the score to 7-1. With two outs in the ninth, pinch hitter Adam Dapkewicz hit a solo home run to right field to make it 7-2. The next batter flew out to center field to end the game.
 
Key Stats:
  • First baseman Reyce Curnane finished the day 5-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored. He racked up three extra base hits, two doubles and a home run. Elijah Dickerson went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored.
  • Towson pitcher Nate Nabholz (1-1) recorded the win with one hit allowed in four relief innings with three strikeouts and a walk. Luis Rivera tossed one hitless inning in relief with a strikeout.
  • Georgetown starter Collin Garner (1-2) took the loss with five earned runs allowed on eight hits with one strikeout and two walks in 2.2 innings pitched.
 
How it Happened:
  • The Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on Reyce Curnane's solo home run to left center field.
  • Michael Eze's single up the middle with runners on first and second tied the game at one.
  • Towson posted four runs on five hits in the third. Frederick plated a run on a ground out to third before Dickerson's double to left and Cristino's single to center scored two more. Brian Heckelman's foul out to deep right field in foul territory allowed the fourth run of the inning to score for a 5-1 game.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Casey Bishop got home from third on a passed ball to extend the Tiger lead. Later in the inning, Dickerson reached on a fielder's choice with runners on second and third, to bring the score to 7-1.
  • With two outs in the ninth, pinch hitter Adam Dapkewicz hit a solo home run to right field to make it a 7-2 game.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Jeremy Wagner extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a 2-for-5 day at the plate. He has now reached base safely in 20 consecutive games, one short of the season highs of 21 from James Moses and Bishop.
  • Dickerson picked up a multi-hit and multi-RBI game on his 2-for-5 day with two RBI. He leads the team with 17 multi-hit games and 10 multi-RBI games.
  • Curnane matched Bryce Frederick's season-high five hit game with a 5-for-5 performance at the plate. He leads the team with 10 home runs despite missing 15 games to start the season.
  • Marks the fourth time this season the Towson pitching staff has held opponents to two runs or less.
 
On Deck:
The Tigers return to John B. Schuerholz Park to face William & Mary from Friday, May 5 to Sunday, May 7. Friday's game time is set for 3 p.m. Game time for Saturday and Sunday is scheduled for 1 p.m.
