Towson Field Hockey Falls to #20 UAlbany

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University field hockey team fell 4-1 to the #20-ranked UAlbany Great Danes Saturday afternoon at the TU Field Hockey Complex.
 
Sarah Hatfield recorded her team-leading sixth goal of the season. Freshmen Olivia Handelong and Lydia Bennett each picked up an assist, their second and first of the season respectively.

How it Happened:
  • The Great Danes received a penalty corner just under 12 minutes into the first quarter. Delphine Le Jeune inserted, and it was received by Blanca Orsola. Alison Smisdom stepped into the circle and got it past the outstretched stick of Tessa Scheenstra for the early lead.
  • On another corner in the beginning of the second quarter, Mara Kuskes inserted to Smisdom on the short side who found the back of the cage for a 2-0 lead.
  • After being awarded another penalty corner, Sophia Schoonmaker picked up the saved rebound of Smisdom's shot and flicked it over Scheenstra for the goal.
  • Later in the period, Smisdom sent a ball into the circle from the right side and connected with Isabella Del Vecchio for the score.
  • In the final five minutes of the fourth period, Olivia Handelong inserted the corner to Lydia Bennett and Sarah Hatfield stepped up and knocked it home.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Sarah Hatfield has eclipsed her point total in 18 games last season (11) through the first seven game of 2023 (12). She is tied for third in the conference with six goals scored.
  • Lydia Bennett recorded her first collegiate assist.
