Towson Volleyball Powers Past Hofstra in Straight Sets

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Towson University volleyball team took on the Hofstra Pride on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers (11-4, 4-1 CAA) swept the Pride (13-3, 3-2 CAA) in David S. Mack P.E. Center 25-19, 25-22, 25-22.
 
Victoria Barrett led all players with 13 kills on .500 hitting percentage and added two total blocks. Irbe Lazda had ten kills on .381 hitting percentage with three total blocks.
 
Key Stats vs Hofstra:
  • The Tigers had with nine blocks compared to four for the Pride.
  • Towson finished with a .340 hitting percentage, the highest hitting percentage that Hofstra has given up this season.
  • The Black & Gold held Hofstra to a .178 hitting percentage, the second lowest total this season for the Pride.
 
How It Happened vs Hofstra:
  • Both teams started the first set battling back and forth with the Pride taking a 7-5 edge.
  • The Tigers took an 11-10 lead after a 6-3 run that included a double block by Irbe Lazda and Aayinde Smith.
  • Hofstra tied the score at 12 apiece, but Towson pulled away by scoring eight straight points that included a double block by Sarah Jordan and Erin Brothers to have a 20-12 lead.

  • Towson won its fourth straight match against the Pride.
  • The Tigers earned its first sweep at Hempstead since 2017.
  • Sarah Jordan totaled 31 assists and eight digs.
  • Aayinde Smith led the Tigers with five total blocks and added seven kills.
