Men’s Basketball Falls at Northeastern, 67-59 on Saturday

BOSTON – Towson men's basketball battled back from a halftime deficit, but the comeback effort fell short in a 67-59 loss against Northeastern on Saturday. The Tigers erased an early 12-point second half deficit to just one midway through the half.

Towson (9-8, 2-2 CAA) got a big second half from Nendah Tarke who scored all 17 of his points in the second half against the Huskies (7-10, 2-2 CAA). Tarke and Charles Thompson each hit double figures with Thompson adding 10 points.

Inside The Numbers:
  • Nendah Tarke led the way with 17 points going 9-11 from the charity stripe and a team-best three assists.
  • Thompson added 10 points and four rebounds. Dylan Williamson and Tyler Tejada chipped in nine points each in the loss.
  • Charles Thompson moved into a tie for fifth in career starts, starting his 100th game as a Tiger against the Huskies. Thompson is already the program leader in career games played with 134 after the game against Northeastern.
How It Happened:
  • Both teams struggled early from the floor. Northeastern got out to an early lead before five straight points from Tyler Tejada gave Towson a 7-6 lead at the under 16 timeout.
  • The Tigers would struggle from the floor over the next seven minutes not connecting on a field goal. However, the Tigers would go 6-6 from the foul line during that stretch to stay within a four-point deficit.
  • Towson would get the deficit down to two after a pair of Charles Thompson free throws, but the Huskies would end the half with a 28-17 lead.
  • Tyler Tejada led the Tigers with seven points in the first 20 minutes with Charles Thompson adding six points.
  • Dylan Williamson would come out and drill a corner three on the first possession of the second half to cut the deficit to eight.
  • That would wake up the Tiger offense. Chase Paar would get a steal and finish on the other end to cut into the Huskies lead, forcing a Northeastern timeout.
  • Nendah Tarke got the Tigers to within one after a three midway through the half.
  • The comeback effort would fall just short with Towson falling 67-59 on Saturday at Northeastern.
Next Game:
  • Towson will remain on the road with a big matchup against Charleston on Thursday, Jan. 18. Tipoff against the Cougars is slated for 7 p.m. on FloHoops and TowsonTigers.com.
