Volleyball Sets Single-Match Hitting Percentage Record in Sweep over Hampton

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University volleyball team faced Hampton in the first match of the series on Saturday evening. The Tigers swept the Lady Pirates at TU Arena in Towson, Md.
 
Victoria Barrett and Ava Nakai led all players with 13 kills. Erin Brothers added a match-high six blocks.

  • Towson outhit Hampton .553 to .105 in the match, including a .680 to .05 advantage in the second set.
  • The Tigers had 47 kills in the match to the Lady Pirates' 22.

How it Happened
  • Towson opened the first set with an 11-1 advantage with kills from Brothers (1), Barrett (1), Ylenia De Mango (1) and Nakai (4). Kaitlyn Moran added two service aces.
  • Moments later, another three-point run extended the lead to 14-2.
  • At 16-4, another three-point Towson run extended the lead to 15.
  • The Tigers got their first set point at 24-10. After two Hampton points, a Nakai kill ended the first set.
  • Set two opened with a 5-4 advantage in favor of the Tigers.
  • A six-point Towson run to follow made it an 11-4 score.
  • At 16-10, Towson added three-straight with a kill each from Barrett and Nakai.
  • At 23-13, Towson scored two straight points on kills from Sarah Callender and Sabrina Sheppard.
  • Set three opened with a 3-3 score. Towson then scored three straight.
  • At 6-5, a four-point run with two De Mango service aces extended the TU lead to 10-5.
  • At 11-8, the Black & Gold scored six of the next seven to push the lead to 17-9.
  • At 19-12, three-straight Tiger points extended the lead to ten points.
  • With a score of 22-15, Towson closed the set with three straight points for a 25-15 win. The Tigers won the match three sets to none.

  • Towson's .553 hitting percentage in the match is the highest single match percentage in program history.
  • Brothers had a season-high six blocks. Her previous best was three.
  • Kaitlyn Moran had 21 assists in the match. This is her seventh match this season with more than 20 assists.
