Towson Volleyball Tops Northeastern in Three Sets

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University volleyball team faced Northeastern in the first match of a two-match series on Saturday evening. The Tigers defeated the Huskies in straight sets at TU Arena in Towson, Md.
 
Victoria Barrett led all players with 17 kills. Maisie Jesse recorded a double-double with 22 assists and 10 digs.

How it Happened
  • The first five Tiger points came by way of a kill, with three from Victoria Barrett and one each from Ylenia De Mango and Ryan Shelton. The fifth, from Shelton, made it 5-2.
  • With a 7-5 lead, Towson scored eight of the next nine points to make it a 15-6 game.
  • Northeastern went on a five-point run to follow, making it 15-11.
  • The Tigers scored five of the next six points with kills from De Mango (2) and Barrett, plus two Laura Detweiler service aces.
  • With a 21-16 lead, Barrett had a kill and service ace to push the advantage.
  • The Black & Gold scored back-to-back points at 23-18 to win the first set by seven.
  • Set two opened with a 4-4 tie. The Tigers scored the next four points with two Barrett kills.
  • With a 9-7 lead, the Tigers went on a 7-1 run to take a 16-8 lead.
  • At 16-10, Towson took five of the next six points to extend its lead to ten.
  • A Husky service error gave the Tigers the win in the second set 25-15.
  • Set three opened with a 6-6 tie. Towson scored six of the next eight points to take a 14-8 lead.
  • Towson scored seven out of nine points with a 17-13 lead for a commanding 24-15 lead.
  • Northeastern scored five straight points before Barrett's kill won the third set 25-15.

  • Victoria Barrett moved into 14th place all-time among Towson kill leaders with 1,037.
