Field Hockey Wins Regular Season Finale at Lock Haven

Lock Haven, Pa. – The Towson University field hockey team closed out the 2024 regular season against the Lock Haven Bald Eagles. A Kristin Strijdom goal and seven total saves from saw Towson win its season finale 1-0.

How it Happened:
  • Lock Haven won a corner late in the first quarter, a close range shot from Madison Friend was stopped by a diving save from Tessa Scheenstra.
  • Early in the second, Anouk Westerink found Kristin Strijdom whose shot from the left side of the circle hit the right post, and Sarah Salameh's follow up shot was swiped off the line by Bald Eagle goalie Kelsey Felix.
  • With five minutes remaining in the second quarter the Tigers won a corner; Olivia Handelong played the ball directly to Strijdom whose shot found the bottom left corner of the goal to put Towson up 1-0.
  • The Bald Eagles won a corner early in the third quarter, Brooke Hofsass's shot was saved by Scheenstra. Another Lock Haven corner followed but the shot was blocked.
  • Lock Haven won another corner, but Molly Lynch's deflected shot was saved off the line by Shannon Quaile.
  • Towson won a corner early in the fourth quarter, Kristin Strijdom's shot was wide and neither Megan Popp nor Quaile could deflect it in.
  • A few minutes later, a Lock Haven cross got by Scheenstra, Alexis Kern's shot was blocked by Olivia Handelong but Lock Haven was awarded a penalty stroke; Hofsass's shot hit the post.
  • In the middle of the fourth, Lock Haven played a ball from midfield into the middle of Towson's circle, ensuing shots from Lopez Zabala and Alyssa Endrick were saved by Scheenstra. Towson would close out the game from there to win their season finale 1-0.
