Zizakovic Tallies Career-High Six Goals; Women's Lacrosse Defeats Mount St. Mary's in Season Opener

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's lacrosse team hosted the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers in Johnny Unitas ® Stadium for the 2024 season opener. The Tigers (1-0) were victorious 14-10 over the Mountaineers (0-1) on Saturday afternoon in Kristen Carr's first game as head coach of Towson.
 
Milana Zizakovic finished with a career-high six goals while Valerie Thompson, Lindsey Marshall and Hannah Delahaye each added two goals.
 
Key Stats vs Mount St. Mary's:
  • The Tigers outshot the Mountaineers 39-24, including a 9-2 advantage in the first quarter.
  • Towson won the draw control battle 16-9.
  • Jo Torres finished with ten saves for the Tigers while the Mount's Ashlyn Watkins totaled nine saves.
How It Happened vs Mount St. Mary's:
  • The Tigers scored the first goal of the game after Milana Zizakovic ran past her defender and rifled a shot that beat Ashlyn Watkins near post.
  • Towson doubled its lead on the next possession when Zizakovic wrapped around the crease and fired a shot that went between Watkins legs.
  • Katie Roszko scored her first collegiate goal to make the score 3-0 when she fired a shot that went far post with two defenders guarding her.

  • The Mountaineers scored two late goals to trail 10-7 going into the fourth quarter.
  • Abby Wesko scored a free position attempt to cut the deficit to two, but Zizakovic answered with her sixth goal of the day to restore a three-goal advantage.
  • Towson grew the lead to 12-8 after Marhsall scored her second after she split two defenders and fired a high-low shot that got past Watkins.
  • The teams traded free position goals, before Lindsay Clarke sealed the game with her first goal to make the score 14-9 with 4:11 left.
  • The Mount added a late goal as the Tigers emerged victorious 14-10 over the Mountaineers.
