TOWSON, Md. – Towson men's basketball bounced back with a dominant 80-55 win against Elon on Monday night in front of a national audience. Freshman
Tyler Tejada nearly tied a career-high, pouring in 17 points to lead the Tiger offense.
Towson (15-10, 8-4 CAA) shot a blistering 62 percent from the floor in the second half to distance themsevles from Elon (10-15, 3-9 CAA).
Charles Thompson recorded his 30
th career 10-plus rebound performance with a 10-point, 12-rebound double double.
Key Stats:
- Tejada was efficient from the floor going 6-12.
- Thompson added three assists, two steals and two blocks. Nendah Tarke also reached double figures with 15 points and five rebounds.
- Towson outrebounded Elon 42-28 with 16 offensive rebounds. The Tiger bench had a big game outscoring the Phoenix 40-13.
How It Happened:
- Both teams came out sluggish from the floor early on with the Phoenix getting out to a four-point lead before a bucket from Messiah Jones cut the deficit to just two.
- Towson would battle back to take the lead after a pair of free throws from Tomiwa Sulaiman. That would be part of a 7-0 run that included a Chase Paar and one finishing through contact.
- Towson would continue their streak ripping off a 13-2 run capped by a Christian May corner three that forced an Elon timeout.
- The Tiger defense would continue to hold strong the rest of the half taking a 35-25 lead into the locker room.
- Tyler Tejada led the way with nine points with Christian May adding eight points and four rebounds.
- Tejada would continue his strong game scoring five quick points to open the second half and extending the lead to 15.
- Towson would stay hot from the field in the half connecting on five of seven to extend the lead to 12 after the Phoenix would connect on a pair of triples.
- Meki Lowery would cut a Phoenix run with a tough and one in the paint.
- Towson would continue to hold the Phoenix the rest of the way, defeating Elon 80-55 on Monday.
Inside The Numbers:
- Charles Thompson moved into a tie for third on in career starts tying Bill Leonard with 108.
- Thompson also passed Gary Neal for 18th and Brian Barber for 17th on the all-time scoring list. Thompson also recorded his 30th career 10-plus rebound performance.
- The Tigers improve to 11-1 at TU Arena this year and have won 19 of their last 20 home games.
