HAMPTON, Va. – Towson men's basketball dropped a 67-61 decision at Hampton on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers fell behind be eight at halftime and rallied back, but the comeback fell just short against the Pirates.
Towson (16-11, 9-5 CAA) were led by
Charles Thompson who scored 17 points and collected a team-best nine rebounds.
Key Stats:
- Thompson added three assists in the contest. Christian May also reached double figures with 12 points and six rebounds.
- Towson collected 46 rebounds and scored 36 of their 61 points in the paint.
How It Happened:
- Towson got out the fast start thanks to six straight points from Charles Thompson to open the game. Thompson scored on the first three possessions as the Tigers took an early 8-7 lead at the under 16 timeout.
- Hampton would respond with a 6-0 run to force a Towson timeout with the Pirates leading by 10. That would extend to 8-0 before Tomiwa Sulaiman ended the run with a short jumper.
- The Tigers would continue to fight back the rest of the half, getting the deficit down to eight at the break after six straight points from Christian May to make it 41-33 at halftime.
- May and Thompson each had eight points at the break with both collecting four rebounds each.
- Towson came out firing in the second half, using a 9-0 run over a two-minute span to retake the lead and force a Hampton timeout.
- Hampton would cut the Tigers lead to just one by the under eight timeout. Both teams would battle back and forth with Charles Thompson putting the Tigers back in front with a tough layup late.
- However the Pirates would end the game on an 8-0 run to defeat the Tigers 67-61 on Saturday.

- Charles Thompson moved into sole possession of second place in career starts with 110. He now only trails Devin Boyd who had 113 starts.

- Towson will return home to TU Arena for the final two home games of the season next Thursday and Saturday. The Tigers will take on Monmouth on Thursday, Feb. 22 for Jewish Community Night.
