Softball Splits Day Two of Pirate Invite With Walk Off Win Against North Carolina Central

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Towson softball fell in the first game of the day against the host Pirates but provided a dramatic 3-2 walk-off win against the Eagles in the nightcap. Cara Bohner provided the heroics with a bases loaded walk to lift the Tigers past North Carolina Central.

Towson (4-8) mustered just two hits against East Carolina but exploded at the plate for 13 hits against the Eagles.

GAME ONE: EAST CAROLINA 6, TOWSON 0
Key Stats: How It Happened:
  • East Carolina jumped on the Tigers early with a run in the first inning on a bases loaded walk.
  • Grace Franczyk would give the Tigers their first hit of the game on a single in the third, but she would be stranded on base.
  • Both starting pitchers would settle in and keep the other side at bay for most of the game
  • However, a four run sixth for the Pirates pushed their lead to 6-0, winning by that same tally.
GAME TWO: TOWSON 3, NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL 0
Key Stats: How It Happened:
  • Towson got out on the front foot in the first inning. Ally Hickman drove in Mackenzie Lake to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.

  • Towson would have another chance in the fifth getting a double from Isabella Canesi, but she would be left on base with a fly out ending the inning.
  • North Carolina Central would have their first chance in the sixth. Back-to-back walks and a single loaded the bases, and the Eagles would capitalize on an error to tie the game at 2-2.
  • Towson responded in their half of the sixth. Naila Neely led off reaching on an error and would advance after an Elizabeth Yoskowitz single. The bases would be loaded after a Cori Jones walk, but a pop out ended the inning.
  • The Tigers would not quit. In the seventh with the bases loaded, Cara Bohner drew a four-pitch walk to score Canesi and give the Tigers a 3-2 win against the Eagles.
