RALEIGH, N.C. – The Towson University baseball team dropped a pair of games in a doubleheader to #14/18 N.C. State on Saturday afternoon at Doak Field in Raleigh, N.C.
In game one, N.C. State (7-2) got on the board with six runs on three hits in the first inning. Towson (1-8) responded in the third inning with
Bryce Frederick's two-run homer to cut the deficit to four. In the next inning, Cozart's solo homer to right made it a 7-2 game. The Tigers pulled within three in the top of the fifth inning, courtesy of
Jeremy Wagner's two-RBI single through the right side. The Wolfpack got eight back in the home half to make it a 15-4 game, which was the final score in seven innings.
Key Stats (Game One):
- The Wolfpack outhit the Tigers, 7-3, in the first game of the doubleheader.
- Towson starter Tyler Russo (0-1) took the loss, with six earned runs allowed on three hits and five walks in 0.2 innings pitched.

How it Happened (Game One):
- N.C. State opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with six runs on three hits, six walks and a hit batter. Jackson VanTassell came on to relieve Russo after five runs scored.
- The Tigers got on the board in the third inning, courtesy of Bryce Frederick's two-run home run to left field to make it a 6-2 game.
- The Wolfpack pushed the lead back to five on Cozart's solo home run to right field in the fourth inning.
- After a Jordan Peyton double and pair of walks loaded the bases in the top of the fifth, Jeremy Wagner hit a single through the right side to score two and pull the Tigers within three.
- The Wolfpack scored eight runs in the home half on two hits, seven walks and two hit batters.
- After no scoring through the next two frames, the final score was 15-4 in seven innings.
N.C. State (8-2) homered five times the first four innings for a 7-0 advantage through
Nate Nabholz's start. A solo home run in the fifth inning pushed the lead to eight. A double to left field in the sixth inning with runners on gave the Wolfpack a 9-0 lead. Towson (1-9) challenged in the seventh with a pair of singles looking to spark a two-out rally, but the Tigers couldn't plate a run. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the frame, a sacrifice fly gave the Wolfpack a 10-0 win in seven innings.
Key Stats (Game Two):
- Nate Nabholz (0-2) took the loss, allowing seven runs, six earned, on seven hits in the 4.0 inning start, adding four strikeouts.
- Logan Whitaker (2-1) got the win in the scoreless 6.0 inning start for the Wolfpack, adding four strikeouts.
- The Wolfpack outhit the Tigers, 11-7, in the game.
How it Happened (Game Two):
- Pennington's solo home run in the first put the Wolfpack in front early.
- After the leadoff man reached on an error, Serrano's home run in the second made it a three-run lead.
- In the third, a single and home run two batters later pushed the lead to five.
- Back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the fourth made it a 7-0 game.
- Another solo homer in the fifth pushed their lead to 8-0.
- Pennington's RBI double in the sixth inning added another run for the Wolfpack.
- With the bases loaded, a sacrifice fly added a tenth run for N.C. State for a 10-0 final in seven innings.
