Second Half Surge Leads No. 5 Towson Past No. 13 William & Mary

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Towson men's basketball used a 20-3 run in the second half to pull away from the Tribe in the 2024 Jersey Mike's CAA Men's Basketball Championship on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers held the Tribe scoreless over a ten-minute stretch late in the second half.

Towson (19-13) had four hit double figures against William & Mary led by Dylan Williamson with 15 points. 12 of his 15 came in the second half.

Key Stats:
  • Williamson led four in double figures with 15 points, going 3-5 from three and a perfect 6-6 from the foul line.
  • Nendah Tarke added 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds with Tomiwa Sulaiman scoring 12 points and Charles Thompson scoring 10 off the bench.
  • The Tigers outrebounded the Tribe 38-36 and shot 40 percent from the floor and 81 percent from the foul line.
How It Happened:
  • Towson jumped out to 7-2 lead after putting together an early 7-0 run. The Tribe would battle back to take the lead early on.
  • Both teams exchanged turns with the lead with Towson taking a lead after a Tyler Tejada slam at the under eight timeout.
  • William & Mary would jump out to a three-point lead, but a Nendah Tarke floater in the lane cut the deficit to just one at the break.
  • Tarke and Tomiwa Sulaiman led the Tigers with eight points each with Tarke pulling down a team-best three rebounds.
  • The Tribe would come out and put together a 6-0 run to take their largest lead, forcing a Towson timeout.
  • Towson would cut into the deficit getting a three from Tejada and a bucket from Charles Thompson to make it a one-point deficit. The Tigers held the Tribe scoreless for over three minutes during the run.
  • That would extend to a 14-0 run over 5:51 that gave the Tigers their largest lead of the game to that point of eight.
  • The Tiger defense would continue to hold off the Tribe, holding William & Mary scoreless over a ten-minute stretch to pull ahead by 16 late.
  • Towson would hold the Tribe to just three field goals down the stretch in a 67-56 win.
Inside The Numbers:
  • Tomiwa Sulaiman reached double figures for the first time since he had 10 against the Tribe back in mid-February.
  • Williamson has reached double figures in three of his last four games.
  • This was just the second win for the Tigers this season after trailing at halftime.
Next Game:
