Towson Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Drexel in Overtime

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's lacrosse team hosted the Drexel Dragons at Tiger Field for Towson's HEADstrong game. On Friday afternoon, the Tigers (6-8, 3-3 CAA) fell to the Dragons (10-3, 4-0 CAA) 9-8 in overtime.
 
Milana Zizakovic led the Tigers with three goal, notching her seventh hat trick of the season. Lindsay Clarke finished with two assists and an assist, while Katie Roszko and Lindsey Marshall each added two goals.
 
Key Stats vs Drexel:
  • The Tigers outshot the Dragons 32-19.
  • Drexel had 15 turnovers compared to only seven for Towson.
  • The Tigers had the edge in draw control battle, 11-8.
  • Jo Torres finished with five saves for the Tigers, while Jenika Cuocco totaled 16 saves for the Dragons.
 
How It Happened vs. Drexel:
  • The Tigers got on the board first with Katie Roszko's 16th goal of the year after she ran past her defender and fired a shot that beat Cuocco near post.
  • The Dragons responded with two goals to take a 2-1 lead, but Lindsey Marshall tied the score at two when Lindsay Clarke found Marshall open, who blasted her shot top into the top corner.
  • Drexel regained the lead after Alex Wall scored her second goal of the quarter.
  • Marshall scored Towson's fourth player down goal of the season to even the score at three apiece heading into the second quarter.
  • The Dragons found the back of the net to take a 4-3 edge early in the second quarter.
  • Drexel added two late goals to take a 6-3 lead heading into halftime after Cuocco held the Tigers scoreless in the second quarter, making five saves.
  • Milana Zizakovic scored her 37th goal of the year to cut the deficit to two after she converted the free position attempt.
  • Zizakovic scored her second goal of the day less than four minutes later to trail 6-5.
  • Roszko tied the score at six apiece 52 seconds later when she fired a shot past Cuocco.
  • Zizakovic completed her seventh hat trick of the season to give Towson a 7-6 lead and capped off a 4-0 third quarter for the Tigers.
  • Clarke found the back of the net for her ninth goal of the season to give Towson a two-goal advantage with 10:55 left in the fourth quarter.
  • Drexel scored its first goal of the second half to trail by one with 8:35 remaining.
  • The Dragons scored four minutes later to tie the score at eight apiece. The teams exchanged late possessions, but couldn't find the back of the net to send the game into overtime.
  • Drexel won the draw, but Blair Goodrich caused her third turnover of the day, which caused a 3-on-2 fast break for the Tigers. Cuocco denied Marshall on the fast break to keep the score tied.
  • Towson forced a turnover on the clear attempt to keep the ball in Drexel's half, but Halley Koras had her shot saved by Cuocco.
  • After a successful clear by the Dragons, Corinne Bednarik scored her fourth goal of the game to seal a 9-8 overtime win for Drexel.

  • Milana Zizakovic becomes the 18th player in program history to score 100 goals.
  • Jo Torres has amassed 500 career saves between Navy and Towson.
  • Blair Goodrich tied a season-high with six draw controls and added a team-high three caused turnovers.
