Towson Women’s Lacrosse Drops CAA Finale to Elon in Overtime

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's lacrosse team hosted the Elon Phoenix on Senior Day. The Tigers (7-9, 4-4 CAA) fell to the Phoenix (9-7, 5-3 CAA) 12-11 in overtime at Tiger Field.
 
Milana Zizakovic led the Tigers with six points on four goals and two assists. Katie Roszko, Lindsay Clarke and Katie McCormick each finished with two points.
 
Key Stats vs Elon:
  • The Phoenix went 26-of-27 on clear attempts, while the Tigers went 18-of-23.
  • Elon finished with 16 draw controls, while Towson had 11.
  • Jo Torres had six saves for the Tigers, while Caitlin Walsh totaled seven saves for the Phoenix.
 
How It Happened vs. Elon:
  • The Tigers got on the board first when Katie McCormick scored her first goal of the season.
  • Towson doubled its lead less than six minutes later when Lindsay Clarke found Milana Zizakovic wide open next to the net, who then fires a shot past Walsh.
  • Lindsey Marshall scored her 42nd goal of the year to extend the lead to three and force the Phoenix to take a timeout.
  • Elon came out of the timeout and scored on its next possession to cut the lead to two.
  • The Phoenix added two late goals to tie the scoreline at three apiece heading into the second quarter.
  • Zizakovic opened the second quarter with her second goal of the day after she converted a free position attempt.

  • Zizakovic scored her fourth goal of the game to restore a one-goal lead for the Tigers.
  • Elon responded less than two minutes later to tie the score for the seventh time.
  • McCormick scored on the following possession after she wrapped around from behind the net and fired a shot between Walsh's legs to give Towson an 11-10 lead with 3:48 remaining.
  • The Phoenix scored with 52 seconds left to level the score at 11. Neither team scored in the final seconds, which caused the game to be sent into overtime.
  • Elon won the draw and scored on its first possession to defeat the Tigers 12-11 in overtime.
