Baseball Drops Series Opener to Northeastern

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team (7-21, 2-5 CAA) hosted Northeastern (23-6, 6-1 CAA) Friday afternoon in the series opener, falling 11-1 at John B. Schuerholz Park
 
Each team got on the board early, with the game knotted at one after the first inning. The Huskies added one more in the fourth, four in the sixth, two in the seventh, one in the eighth and two in the ninth for an 11-1 final at John B. Schuerholz Park.
 
Key Stats:
  • Towson starter Andrew Luczak (0-3) registered the loss with two runs allowed, one earned, off six hits and one walk issued in his 4.2 inning outing. He added five strikeouts in the start.
  • Northeastern starter Jake Gigliotti (4-1) recorded the win, surrendering just one earned run on five hits in his 5.0 frame start.
 
How it Happened:
  • With a runner on third in the top of the first, Northeastern's Alex Lane knocked a double off the left-field wall to plate the runner for a 1-0 lead.
  • Three straight singles in the home half, the last off the bat of Jordan Peyton, tied the game at one apiece.
  • In the fourth inning, Jack Doyle hit a solo home run to left field to retake a lead, 2-1.
  • The Huskies added four runs on two hits in the sixth inning, highlighted by Tyler MacGregor's two-run single to center field.
  • Northeastern added two more runs in the seventh on a pair of bases-loaded walks to extend the lead to 8-1.
  • With runners on second and third in the top of the eighth, Doyle hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring in the ninth Northeastern run of the day.
  • The Huskies added another run in the top of the ninth on a bases-loaded walk. A double-play ground-out on the following at-bat brought in another Northeastern run for a 11-1 advantage.
  • The Tigers went down in order in the home half for an 11-1 final in favor of the Huskies.
