PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Towson softball battled back from an early deficit to defeat Drexel 6-3 in extra innings. Head coach
Lisa Costello recorded her 800
th career win on Saturday, all of which have come as the head coach of the Tigers.
Towson (14-22, 5-9 CAA) got a big day from
Kristin Toland who had a pair of home runs and five RBIs in her first game back after an early season injury.
Key Stats:
- Toland went 2-4 from the plate with two home runs and five RBIs.
- Isabella Canesi drove in the other run for the Tigers with a hit. Seven different Tigers had a hit in the contest.
- Erin Brown picked up the win throwing a complete game. Brown scattered six hits and three earned runs and two strikeouts.
How It Happened:
- Drexel would get out to an early lead after a pair of runs in the first inning.
- Towson would cut into the deficit in the second. Grace Franczyk led off with a single and advanced on a fielding error. After a wild pitch moved her to third, Isabella Canesi drove her in on a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 2-1.
- However, the Dragons would get that run back in the bottom of the inning with a home run to make it 3-1.
- Kristin Toland would tie the game in the fifth. Canesi led off with a single and just two batters later, Toland smashed a home run to left center to tie it at 3-3.
- Towson had a chance in the seventh to take the lead. Mackenzie Lake reached on a hit by pitch and Cori Jones reached on an error, but a line out ended the threat.
- Toland would once again come up clutch in the eighth inning. After Ally Hickman reached on a walk and Yoskowitz singled, Toland took the second pitch she saw and smashed her second home run of the day to put Towson in front 6-3.
- Erin Brown completed her strong outing with three outs to give Towson a 6-3 win.
