Toland Hits Game-Winning Home Run; Costello Wins 800th Career Game in 6-3 Extra Inning Win at Drexel

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Towson softball battled back from an early deficit to defeat Drexel 6-3 in extra innings. Head coach Lisa Costello recorded her 800th career win on Saturday, all of which have come as the head coach of the Tigers.

Towson (14-22, 5-9 CAA) got a big day from Kristin Toland who had a pair of home runs and five RBIs in her first game back after an early season injury.

Key Stats:
  • Toland went 2-4 from the plate with two home runs and five RBIs.
  • Isabella Canesi drove in the other run for the Tigers with a hit. Seven different Tigers had a hit in the contest.
  • Erin Brown picked up the win throwing a complete game. Brown scattered six hits and three earned runs and two strikeouts.
How It Happened:
  • Drexel would get out to an early lead after a pair of runs in the first inning.
  • Towson would cut into the deficit in the second. Grace Franczyk led off with a single and advanced on a fielding error. After a wild pitch moved her to third, Isabella Canesi drove her in on a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 2-1.
  • However, the Dragons would get that run back in the bottom of the inning with a home run to make it 3-1.
  • Kristin Toland would tie the game in the fifth. Canesi led off with a single and just two batters later, Toland smashed a home run to left center to tie it at 3-3.
  • Towson had a chance in the seventh to take the lead. Mackenzie Lake reached on a hit by pitch and Cori Jones reached on an error, but a line out ended the threat.
  • Toland would once again come up clutch in the eighth inning. After Ally Hickman reached on a walk and Yoskowitz singled, Toland took the second pitch she saw and smashed her second home run of the day to put Towson in front 6-3.
  • Erin Brown completed her strong outing with three outs to give Towson a 6-3 win.
On Deck:
  • The Tigers and Dragons will conclude the series tomorrow, Sunday, Apr. 7 at 1 p.m. The game can be seen on FloSoftball.
