Field Hockey Drops Sunday Morning Game to Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Towson University field hockey took on the Davidson Wildcats as they closed out their opening weekend of the 2024 season. A third quarter counterattack from the Wildcats would prove the difference as they took the 1-0 win.
Records:
Towson - 0-2, 0-0 CAA
Davidson - 1-0, 0-0 A-10
How it happened:
  • Davidson won a few corners early in the first, but a block and a Tessa Scheenstra save saw neither come to fruition.
  • The Tigers would win a corner late in the first, but a Sarah Hatfield shot went just wide of the post.
  • The wildcats found the first big non-corner chance early in the second, but Sib Naaktgeboren's shot couldn't get past Scheenstra.
  • Towson would win another corner with ninety seconds left in the first half, but a Maddie Dalton shot was turned aside by Davidson goalie MaryKate Berg.
  • Scheenstra would deny three great Davidson chances in the opening five minutes of the third quarter to keep the game scoreless.
  • Towson would win a corner soon after, however it would be blocked and the resulting counterattack led to the game's opening goal from the Wildcat's Macy Curtis.
  • The Tigers then had their best chance of the game at that point as another Maddie Dalton shot hit the post and just stayed out of the Davidson net after a scramble at the goal line.
  • Another pair of shots from two Towson corners late in the third were pushed just beyond either post.
  • An early fourth quarter chance from Davidson was kicked aside by Scheenstra.
Next Up:
  • Towson's home opener vs Saint Francis will take place on Friday at 3 PM at the TU Field Hockey Complex.
