Volleyball Opens CAA Slate with Sweep over William & Mary

 TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University volleyball team opened the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) slate against the William & Mary Tribe on Saturday evening. The Tigers defeated the Tribe in three sets to open CAA play with a win.
 
Victoria Barrett hit new season-highs with 23 kills and four service aces. Sydney Stewart finished with 13 digs and both Tiger setters finished with double-digit assists.

  • The Tigers recorded six service aces, four from Victoria Barrett and two from MacKenzie Whyte, compared to the Tribe's one.

How it Happened
  • Towson opened the first set with three of the first four points with two Barrett service aces.
  • Each team scored three of the next six to get to 6-3.
  • William & Mary scored three of the next four to get one back at 7-6.
  • Towson scored the next three with kills from Barrett and Ylenia De Mango to make it 10-6.
  • Another three-point Tiger run with a Barrett kill and service ace later in the set gave them a 15-9 lead.
  • Towson extended the set lead to 21-12 with another three-point run with an Ava Nakai kill.
  • William & Mary scored five straight to pull within four.
  • Towson scored three of the final five points of the set on a Sydney Stewart kill and two Barrett kills.
  • After a 2-2 start to the second set, the Black & Gold scored seven of the next eight points to make it 9-3.
  • After a Tribe point, the Tigers scored ten straight points with two Barrett kills and two Whyte service aces.
  • William & Mary responded with four straight points to make it 19-8.
  • After two Towson points, a five-point Tribe run pulled it to 21-13 in the set.

  • At 21-20, Towson scored four of the final five points with kills from Nakai and a triple block from Sarah Callender, Whyte and Nakai to end the deciding set.

  • Barrett finished with 23 kills, a new season-high and two short of her career high.
  • Sydney Stewart led all players with 13 digs, her seventh double-digit total in 11 matches this season.
  • Both Kaitlyn Moran (19) and Maisie Jesse (17) finished with double-digit assist totals for the ninth time this season.
