Callender Leads Tigers Past Charlotte in Straight Sets

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Towson University volleyball team faced Charlotte in the final match of the Charlotte Invitational Saturday morning. The Tigers topped the 49ers in three sets to take the decisive victory at Halton Arena.
 
Sarah Callender led all players with 10 kills. Towson held a 12-3 service ace advantage in the match after allowing the first two early in the match.

How it Happened
  • Charlotte started the match on a 5-0 run with three Towson attacking errors and two service aces.
  • After a few short exchanges to get to 9-4, the Tigers went on a 7-0 run to take the lead.
  • A three-point run with kills from Callender and Zyare Abdul-Rahim put TU up 15-11.
  • A three-point 49er run later in the set pulled them within two at 20-18.
  • The Black & Gold closed the first set on a five-point run with kills from Kendall Minta and Callender.
  • The Tigers opened set two on a 5-2 run.
  • Back-to-back three point runs from Towson with one Charlotte point between them gave the Tigers a 12-5 edge.
  • Three-point runs from both sides pushed it to 15-8.

  • Callender hit at a season-high .667 rate and matched her best kill total with 10. She had no attacking errors for the second time this season.
  • After her three-ace match, Stewart's 16 leads the team and the conference in the category.

Abdul-Rahim and Stewart received Charlotte Invitational All-Tournament Team selections.
