Towson Athletics Hosts Successful Career in Athletics Field Trip Day

TOWSON, Md. – Towson University Athletics is dedicated to being a strong community partner in the Baltimore County area.  As such on Friday, TU Athletics hosted 23 Baltimore County schools for the Career in Athletics Field Trip Day to promote collegiate athletics, educational programs and fun on campus.

The day started with a welcome from Towson director of athletics Steve Eigenbrot to over 500 students at Stephens Hall, following with a student-athlete/coach panel to learn about interesting topics in collegiate athletics.

From there, the students did a series of breakout sessions, ranging in various different topics for the students to learn about.  These sessions included another student-athlete/coach panel, discussions with internal athletic department leadership and a breakout with Towson University professors in athletic training, communications and sport management.  Two of the sessions were in the TU Science Complex, the largest academic building on campus which opened in 2021, while the third took place in Stephens Hall.

But athletics is about competition, and what better way to end a Career in Athletics Field Trip Day with a game!  The students came to TU Arena as the Towson women's basketball team hosted Monmouth at 2 p.m.  A great back-and-forth game ensued, with the Tigers narrowly falling to the Hawks 56-54.

During the game, students and staff took part in the in-game competitions, including a tic-tac-toe game featuring high school rivals Dulaney and Towson, a Dress Like a Tiger competition and more.

"The day provided some excellent insights for our students," said Jeffry Brotman, career navigator at Towson High School. "The most impactful being the panelists' stories about their professional journeys and how they leveraged their interest in sports and found their way to Towson University. I think it showed our high schoolers that finding success in sports careers isn't necessarily prescriptive and I think that was a relief for some."

Towson Athletics looks forward to future field trip days in later years.
