Perry's Brace Lifts Tigers, Towson Eliminated from Postseason Contention

PHILADELPHIA – A Kale'a Perry first half brace and Emma Kirkpatrick's first goal as a Towson Tiger gave the Towson University women's soccer team a 3-0 win over Drexel but the Tigers would ultimately be eliminated from CAA tournament contention after Hofstra secured the 3-2 win.

"I'm very pleased with the 3-0 performance at Drexel, and it's great to close out the regular season with another shut out and win," head coach Katherine Vettori said, "It's extremely disappointing to lose advancing to the CAA quarterfinals two years in a row based off of tiebreaks. However, I'm really proud that we've been in the fight. Lastly, we truly appreciate the support of our amazing fans. Goh Tigers!"

Key Stats:
  • Towson outshot Drexel 14-7 and 9-2 with shots on target.
  • Teagan Gardner earned her fourth clean sheet of the season.
  • Perry got her first brace of the season.
How It Happened:
  • The Tigers kept the pressure going early, causing the Dragon defense to be out of position and eventually forcing a yellow card just over five minutes into the game.
  • Emely Rubio took the free kick into the box which Malin Bernt Schops headed down to Perry who put it in the back of the net.
  • The first half continued with significant pressure before the second goal came from the foot of Perry again of Sophie Thibeault played Luisangely Navas Gonzalez wide who put the cross in front of the net which Perry tucked away.
  • The second half saw controlled play with neither team gaining significant play into either's attacking third before Kirkpatrick was fed the ball from a Rubio cross after Gracen Houck was able to play Rubio into open space.
