No. 3 Towson Falls to No. 6 Stony Brook in CAA Quarterfinal Round

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University volleyball team faced Stony Brook on Thursday night in the Quarterfinal Round of the 2025 CAA Championship, hosted at SECU Arena.
 
No. 6 Stony Brook (12-14, 7-9 CAA) won two tight sets to begin the match before No. 3 Towson (21-7, 12-4) won the third set 25-19. The Seawolves erased a deficit in the fourth set to win it, 25-22, and take the match three sets to one.

  • Towson outhit Stony Brook 2.76 to .194 in the match. In the deciding fourth set, the Seawolves outhit the Tigers .231 to .209.
  • Stony Brook outside hitter Kali Moore led all players with 25 kills.
 
How it Happened
  • The teams traded three and four-point runs to begin the match, giving Towson a 7-6 lead early in the first set.
  • Tied up at 9-9, Stony Brook scored six of the next eight points to put the Seawolves up 15-11.
  • A three-point Tiger run down four pulled the Tigers back within one point at 16-15.
  • A three-point Stony Brook run to follow put the Seawolves back up four.
  • The Seawolves got their first set point opportunity at 24-20.
  • The Black & Gold answered with wins on the next three points before a TU attack error gave Stony Brook the 25-23 set one win.
  • The Seawolves opened the second set with a 4-0 lead.
  • The teams traded short rallies through the first half of the set as the Tigers evened the score at 14 all with back-to-back points.
  • Down 18-16, Towson scored five unanswered points to build a 21-18 lead in the second set.
  • In a 22-19 hole, Stony Brook won six of the final seven points of the set to win 25-23.
  • Towson jumped out to a 7-3 lead to start the third set. Tshilanda Diouf (1), Erin Brothers (2) and Ella Sanders (2) had kills in the run.

  • The Seawolves won three of the final four points to close the fourth set with a 25-22 win. Stony Brook won the match three sets to one, ending the Tigers' bid for the 2025 CAA Championship.
