Towson Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Elon

ELON, N.C. – The Towson University women's lacrosse team traveled down to North Carolina to take on the Elon Phoenix on Saturday. The Tigers (6-8, 2-5 CAA) fell to the Phoenix (8-6, 5-2 CAA) 16-8 at Rudd Field.
 
Milana Zizakovic led the Tigers with five points, scoring four goals and tallying an assist. Savannah Safchuck, Valerie Thompson and Katie Roszko each finished with two points.
 
Key Stats vs Elon:
  • Elon won the draw control battle 18-10.
  • The Phoenix had 27 shots on goal compared to only 14 for the Tigers.
  • Jenna Cardeno made 11 saves while Elon's Caitlin Walsh finished with six.
 
How It Happened vs Elon:
  • Elon's Sammie Fisher opened the game by scoring two quick goals to take an early lead.
  • Milana Zizakovic scored Towson's first goal when she ran between three defenders and fired a low shot that beat Walsh.
  • The teams exchanged goals, but the Phoenix found the back of the net to lead by two with 9:52 left in the first quarter. 
  • Zizakovic scored two more goals, including a behind the back goal to tie the score at four at the end of the first quarter.
  • Ocea Leavy gave the Tigers the lead to start the second quarter with her 19th goal of the season.
  • The Phoenix responded by scoring two goals to regain a one-goal lead with 5:59 left in the second quarter.
  • Shannon Sullivan went coast-to-coast and scored her first goal of the season to tie the score at six heading into halftime.
  • Elon's Ana Lee Vandiver started the third quarter by scoring three consecutive goals to give the Phoenix a three-goal advantage.
  • The Phoenix added four more goals in third quarter to lead by seven heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Thompson cut the deficit down to six to open the fourth quarter with her 27th goal of the season.
  • Elon added two more goals to lead by eight midway through the fourth quarter.
  • Each team added a late goal as the Tigers fell to the Phoenix 16-8.

  • Milana Zizakovic moved to seventh all-time in program history in goals today with 141.
  • Shannon Sullivan finished with a team-high three caused turnovers and four ground balls.
