BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Towson University baseball team faced Campbell in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play on Friday evening at Jim Perry Stadium in Buies Creek, N.C.
Towson (13-29, 5-11 CAA) took a one-run lead in the first inning, and after Campbell (17-23, 8-8 CAA) tied the game in the bottom half, the Tigers retook a 3-1 lead in the second inning. The Camels took their first lead of the game with four runs on four hits in the bottom of the second and added three more in the third.
Brian Heckelman's home run in the fifth cut Towson's deficit to three before Campbell scored their ninth run of the game in the next inning. No runs over the final three innings game the Camels a 9-5 series opening win.

- Towson starter Andrew Luczak (2-4) got the loss, allowing five earned runs on six hits and two walks in 1.2 innings of work. Luczak struck out two batters faced.
- Campbell starter Peyton Brown (3-2) took the win, allowing five runs, four earned, on eight hits and one walk in 5.0 innings pitched. Brown struck out five. The Camels' lone reliever to enter the game out of the bullpen, Evan Hendricks, earned his first save of the year after tossing 4.0 one hit, scoreless frames with five strikeouts.
How it Happened
- Jordan Peyton's walk and Max D'Alessandro's double in the first put two runners in scoring position for the Tigers in the first inning. That allowed Brian Heckelman to plate the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly in foul territory down the left field line.
- In the bottom half, Meglio's single through the left side with two runners on tied the game for the Camels.
- The Tigers retook the lead in the second. Taye Robinson started the inning with a leadoff single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Ethan Brand's single to left on the following at-bat scored Robinson, who advanced to third on a failed pickoff attempt at first base. Josh Janove's fly ball to center field extended the Tigers' lead to 3-1.
- Back-to-back hits to start the home half plated a run for Campbell. Three batters later, Thompson's home run to right center gave the Camels a 5-3 lead.
- Campbell added three runs on three hits in the bottom of the third, pushing the lead to 8-3.
- Heckelman cut Campbell's lead to three in the top of the fifth, driving in Brett Ahalt on his homer to left field.
- The Camels added their ninth run of the game in the bottom of the sixth as Keller plated Schuldt from second on his single to left center field.
- No runs from either team over the final three innings gave the Camels a 9-5 win in the series opener.
