PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 14 Towson University men's lacrosse team fell in the NCAA Tournament First Round at No. 4/3 Princeton 22-12, concluding the 2025 season.
Towson (11-6) kept close with 3-seed Princeton (13-3) minutes into the third quarter, but the home team broke away with a 7-0 run into the fourth quarter.
This concludes Towson's 2025 campaign. Towson won its 10
th Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament title and second in a row this year, earning a program DI record 10-game winning streak and finishing at 11-6 overall.
Princeton will advance to the NCAA Quarterfinal on Saturday, May 17 at Hofstra.
Key Stats:
- Towson outshot Princeton in the game 46-42 and forced seven turnovers on Princeton clears. Princeton had the advantage on faceoffs 23-16.
- Ronan Fitzpatrick had his second-straight four-goal game, adding a caused turnover. Mikey Weisshaar tallied up two goals, two assists, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
- The loss in goal went to Luke Downs, who finished with 11 saves. Sam Morin caused two turnovers and scooped up five ground balls.
- Matt Constantinides took all but five faceoffs for Towson, going 15-for-34 with five ground balls.
- For Princeton, Nate Kabiri and Tucker Wade each had five goals and two assists. Ryan Croddick picked up the victory in goal, having 12 saves and 12 goals allowed in the first 56:17 of play.
How It Happened:
- Princeton got off to a fast start, winning the opening faceoff and scoring on its first possession. Towson had to use the shot clock during possessions as Princeton held on defense, forcing wide shots. Princeton added another off a second goal from Wade Tucker as the home team led 2-0 just under six minutes in.
- Towson kept the pressure on the ride, forcing two turnovers off clears. On the second on the caused turnover by Ryan Schrier, Chuck Matusek picked up the ground ball and raced to cage, scoring on the bouncer to put Towson on the board with 3:46 left in the first. Towson kept the pressure on, but Princeton added two goals in the final minute of the first to lead 4-1 after one.
- Sam Morin intercepted a pass off a faceoff win as Princeton then came offsides, giving Towson a man-up chance. Michael Katz converted the man-up on the doorstep. Towson's ride forced another bad Princeton clear and Ronan Fitzpatrick scored low straight away as the visitors pulled to within one at 4-3 2:48 into the second.
- Princeton got the goal back on Wade's third score. Towson got that goal back on another man-up chance as Chop Gallagher scored close range to get Towson back within one. Minutes later, Alex Vieni had a beautiful dodge to shake off his defender and get free in front of the cage, scoring to tie the game 5-5 with 6:24 to go in the first half.
- Off four won faceoffs, Princeton bolted back ahead with a 4-0 run in the span of 83 seconds. Towson halted the run, getting possession and scoring from a low shot for Fitzpatrick's second goal. Princeton got the goal back five seconds later off a won faceoff and goal from Andrew McMeekin to be up 10-6 with 2:52 to play in the second.
- When Towson got to offense, the goals kept coming as Fitzpatrick scored again on a scorcher inside the post for his third goal. Again Princeton off a faceoff win as Nate Kabiri scored under the crossbar in response. Princeton led 11-7 at half.
- Princeton scored on a catch and shoot to lead by five to begin the third, then Fitzpatrick scored again off another move from behind the cage. The Princeton quick strike offense kept going as the home team added two more to go up 14-8 minutes into the third.
- The high-flying offense continued as Towson got two back in the following minute, a low rip from Mikey Weisshaar and a charge ahead for Vieni. Again Princeton got the scores back, tacking on two more in the span of a minute to return the lead to six 16-10 at the under-8 media timeout of the third.
- Towson continued to push, but Princeton's defense held against Towson's offense. Princeton expanded the run to 6-0 into the end of period to lead 20-10 after three.
- The teams went back and forth exchanging goals in the early minutes. Connor Slein scored on a straight away shot, causing the bench to erupt in support of its redshirt senior. Neither team scored in the final 9:22 as Princeton took the win 22-12.

- In this game, Matt Constantinides surpassed the career 700-faceoff wins mark, adding to his all-time lead in Towson history. He finishes his stellar career with 712 won faceoffs.
- Ronan Fitzpatrick earned his fifth 4+ goal game of the season and second in a row.
