TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University volleyball team kicks off its 2025 campaign tomorrow in the Quest for the Crown, hosted by Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va. The Tigers open the season vs. West Virginia on Friday at 10 a.m. and they'll return that afternoon to face Fairfield at 4:30 p.m. TU matches up against the hosting Monarchs on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Among the Nation's Best
The Tigers own a 137-23 overall record since 2019, giving them an 85.6% win percentage in the past six seasons. That percentage lands the Tigers at 6
th overall in Division I over that span, behind only Western Kentucky, Pitt, Texas, Wisconsin and Nebraska. Creighton, Louisville, FGCU and Dayton round out the top ten.
CAA Preseason Poll
Towson was picked to finish third in the CAA Preseason Poll after receiving one first place vote and finishing with 88 total points. Charleston and Hofstra edged out the Black & Gold with 92 and 90 total points, respectively. The Cougars received five first place votes while the Pride finished with four.
North Carolina A&T finished fourth with one first place vote and 68 total points. Stony Brook (62), William & Mary (55) and Northeastern (47) solidify the top seven. Elon (34), UNCW (30), Campbell (29) and Hampton (10) round out the group.

Sydney Stewart earned Preseason All-CAA nods, announced by the league office on Aug. 18.
Brothers earned her second Preseason All-CAA Team honor after being named an honorable mention prior to the 2024 campaign. She totaled 98 kills, 56 blocks, four assists and four digs in 65 sets over 18 matches played. The Ohio native missed the first 12 matches of the 2024 season while recovering from injury.
Stewart is the lone libero to receive Preseason All-CAA Team recognition. She appeared in all 30 matches for the Tigers last season, totaling 508 digs, 133 assists, 38 service aces and two kills over 111 sets. The Pennsylvania native finished third among league leaders with 4.58 digs/set.
Stewart finished tied for ninth in the CAA with 0.34 service aces/set.
Earning Stripes
The 2025 roster features three transfers and six freshmen. Highlighting the incoming crop of Tigers is Colorado State transfer
Taylor Pagan, an outside hitter for two seasons with the Rams. Other notable newcomers include freshmen opposite hitter
Malinah Purcell-Telefoni and setter

Towson Head Coach
Don Metil is the all-time winningest coach in program history with a 269-88 record dating back to 2013. Heading into his 24
th season as an NCAA head coach, his first win of the 2025 campaign will mark 500 wins in his collegiate coaching career. At his previous stops, Metil collected 145 wins at UMES, 15 at Coppin State, 30 at Lees-McRae and 40 at Notre Dame (Md.).
2024 Recap
The Tigers finished the 2024 season at 24-6 overall and 14-4 in CAA play. Towson earned the No. 3 seed in the CAA Championship and was knocked out by the No. 2 Delaware Blue Hens in four sets.
