Tigers Emerge Victorious over Iona & Princeton at SECU Arena

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University volleyball team hosted Iona and Princeton on Friday to open the Towson-Coppin State Invitational.
 
In the morning match vs. the Gaels, the Tigers dropped the second and third sets in tight fashion after taking the opening set, 25-15. They went on to win the final two sets by scores of 25-17 and 15-11.
 
In the evening match vs. Princeton, Towson took the opening set before surrendering the second. The TU Tigers went on to win the final two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-23, respectively.

  • Towson held a .197 to .130 hitting advantage in the match.
  • In a pivotal fourth set, the Tigers held the Gaels to a .031 hitting percentage. They hit at a .294 rate in set four.

How it Happened vs. Iona
  • After Towson started the opening set with a 4-2 lead, Iona scored four straight points to flip the score to a two-point advantage in their favor.

  • Ella Sanders recorded her third-straight double-double and fifth of the season, finishing with 10 kills and 23 digs.
  • Sydney Stewart led all players with 25 digs in the match.

Towson will wrap up hosting duties for the Towson-Coppin State Invitational tomorrow, with matches vs. Lafayette and Penn set for 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
