Metil Looking for 300th Towson Win in Weekend Series vs. William & Mary

TOWSON, Md. – The Tigers return home to SECU Arena for their second Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) home series against the William & Mary Tribe on Friday and Saturday. The matches are slated for 6 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
 
Both matches will stream live on FloCollege. Live stats can be found at TowsonTigers.com. Friday's match will be simulcast on Monumental Sports Network.

We've partnered with the American Breast Cancer Foundation (ABCF) to raise money in support of breast cancer research for our Dig Pink match on Saturday. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the match. The first 100 fans inside SECU Arena will receive a pink TU fanny pack. 
 
Last Time Out
Towson faced Charleston in its first CAA road test of the regular season last weekend at TD Arena.
 
The Cougars outhit the Tigers .266-.156 in the match as they went on to win in three sets.
 
On Saturday, the Black & Gold dropped the first two sets before roaring back with 25-19 and 26-24 wins in sets three and four to force a fifth. The Cougars opened the final set on a 5-1 run and scored eight of the final nine points of the frame to win 15-4.
 
Scouting the Tribe
The Tribe are 4-7 overall and 0-2 in the CAA through the second week of league play. They're led by senior outside hitter Audrey Brcka, who has 134 kills, averaging 3.12 per set. Defensive specialist/libero Avery Horejsi earned a preseason All-CAA honorable mention nod while the Tribe were picked to finish ninth among CAA teams. The Tribe's best trait is limiting opponent kills, as they stand third in the league with a 11.63 opponent kills per set mark. They're limiting opponents to a .184 hitting mark, good for fifth among conference leaders.
 
CAA Weekly Awards
Middle blocker Clara Vorel was named the CAA Rookie of the Week on Sept. 28 after posting a team-best 10 blocks in the Tigers' two wins over Northeastern, adding 12 kills on a .367 hitting percentage, one assists and two digs.
 
The Rincon, Ga. native posted eight kills on a .571 hitting mark in Friday's conference opener, supplementing five blocks. She closed the weekend with another five stops at the net and added four kills on Saturday.
 
Vorel is the Tigers' first weekly award winner of the season and their first rookie of the week recipient since Malinah Purcell-Telefoni earned a nod on Oct. 6, 2025.
 
League Leaders
The Tigers are first among Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) statistical leaders on a per set basis in points (18.11), kills (14.16) and assists (13.34).
 
Other top three league marks include a .244 hitting percentage (third), 14.89 digs per set (second), a .171 opponent hitting percentage (second), 11.55 opponent kills per set (second) and opponent blocks per set (third).
 
Record-Setting Crowd
On Sept. 11 at SECU Arena, Towson volleyball announced a record-setting crowd of 1,161 fans at its match against Arkansas, topping the previous high of 1,012 against Rutgers on Sept. 3, 2022.
 
Metil Detector
Towson Head Coach Don Metil is the all-time winningest coach in program history with a 298-100 (.749) record dating back to 2013. Now in his 25th season as an NCAA head coach, Metil is 528-230 (.697). Metil was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Coach of the Year in 2019 after winning Towson's first-ever NCAA Tournament game vs. American and finishing the season at 29-3. He boasts four CAA Coach of the Year awards during his tenure at TU: 2014, 2015, 2019 and 2022.

Since moving into SECU Arena full-time in 2013, Towson has racked up an impressive 147-34 (.812) overall record at home. That total includes CAA Championship matches played at SECU Arena. Dating back to 2019, the Black & Gold have amassed a 93-12 (.886) record in the arena.
 
2025 Recap
After dropping the first two matches of the 2025 season, Towson followed with 18 consecutive match wins and finished the regular season at 21-6. The Tigers finished the league slate at 12-4, earning the No. 3 seed in the CAA Championship. They faced No. 6 Stony Brook in their opening match of the tournament, falling three sets to one at SECU Arena.
