TOWSON, Md. – In a battle of the first-place teams in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) North and South Divisions, Towson University women's soccer fell to UNCW 2-1 on Thursday.
The Seahawks got a goal early in the first half and added a penalty kick goal within the first two minutes of the second half to take a 2-0 lead.
Sophie Thibeault brought the Tigers within one with a goal in the 73rd minute but it wasn't enough for Towson to complete the comeback.
"We did not come out and play the way that we play in the first half. It was kind of a wake up call at halftime. It still wasn't great in the second half but at least we showed a little bit of who we are and the effort was there. Sophie's goal was beautiful. It started with Meron making a great defensive play and Sophie finished. I'm proud that we found a way to fight back in the second half," Towson head coach
Katherine Vettori said.
