How it Happened
  • After some early back-and-forth to begin the game, Towson gathered off a failed Drexel clear and scored as Alex Roussel emerged from behind the cage and scored close range.  A minute later, Joaquin Villagomez passed through a double team to Mikey Weisshaar for the shot and score on the run for an early two-goal lead.  Minutes later, Roussel hit a burner top shelf, then off an unsettled situation on a faceoff win, Matthew Wolfington scored his first career goal one-on-one with the keeper to send Towson up 4-0 with 8:13 left in the first.
  • Drexel scored on its next offensive possession to get on the board.  Towson countered with a Weisshaar goal off a pick straight-away, and as the quarter was closing, Villagomez scored on a spin around a defender for a five-goal Towson lead.  Drexel added a goal in the period's closing seconds to make it 6-2 Towson after one.
  • Over five minutes went past without a score to begin the second quarter.  Drexel eventually continued its run, scoring the period's first three goals in a span of 3:05 to pull within one at 6-5 Towson, 6:37 in the second.
  • Towson regrouped with a couple of faceoff wins, leading to goals.  Roussel scored on a run from behind the cage followed by Weisshaar firing a perfect shot inside the post.  Towson took a 8-5 lead into halftime.
  • Matt Nilan made saves in the early minutes of the third quarter, but Drexel scored first in the quarter on a Ty Gougler man-up situation.  Towson got the goal back 2:30 later as Roussel picked up a ground ball, dove shooting behind the back for the highlight reel goal.
  • That goal sparked a run through the rest of the period.  Andrew Goldt scored with a high shelf shot from Weisshaar, then Weisshaar added two more in the final two minutes of the period, a laser into the top left corner for career point No. 200, then a catch and shoot from Roussel.  Towson led 12-6 after three quarters.
  • Drexel again scored the first goal of a quarter, hitting a Caden Zadell goal with 12:43 left in the game.  Towson got it back about 90 seconds later as Weisshaar came off a dodge and scored his sixth goal.  Towson continued to hold as the Tigers led 13-7, 5:30 to play.
  • Drexel had a last push with two goals in 35 seconds to pull within four.  Nilan stopped a potential third goal in that run with a big save as Towson ran some clock.  With 2:16 left, Roussel got past the defense unsettled to score one-on-one with the keeper and return the lead to five.  Drexel scored 40 seconds left, but Towson held the rest of the way and won 14-10.
