Towson, Md. – The Towson University women's tennis team will play three matches this week - hosting two Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) matches and making the short trip down Charles Street to face Loyola.
 
The Tigers (7-9, 1-4 CAA) will welcome Monmouth (2-11, 0-2 CAA) on Tuesday afternoon at the Tiger Tennis Complex. The Hawks have not played since a 4-3 loss to Drexel on March 14.
 
The next day, the Tigers will face Loyola (2-8).
 
On Friday afternoon, UNCW will be on campus for the first time since 2019. The Seahawks (8-4, 3-1 CAA) are led by Eda Arli and Elif Albayrak, who are a combined 19-4 in singles this season. The duo is also 10-2 at No. 1 doubles.
 
Prior to Friday's match, the Tigers will honor senior Sania Suchinsky. The Rockville, Maryland native, who missed 12 matches this spring because of a battle with mononucleosis, is 20-20 lifetime in singles. She has an 11-5 record on court 6. She finished her junior season with six consecutive victories. In addition, she was 7-3 in doubles in 2024-25.
 
SINGLING OUT
Gaia Montecchi and Ashira Murray are a combined 23-8 in singles this season. Montecchi is 12-4 with victories on courts 1, 2 and 3. The sophomore has 11 straight set wins. Murray is 11-4 with five wins in both the No. 4 and No. 5 spots in the lineup. The junior is 6-0 on court 5.

AWARD WINNERS
Murray was named Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Women's Player of the Week on February 24 after improving to 7-0 with a pair of three set victories. Competing at No. 4 singles, the junior battled past Georgetown's Ashley Kennedy, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) to help the Tigers earn a 4-2 team win. She followed by edging Navy's Jina Cha, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 1-0 (11-9) – capturing the final five points of the match.

A week earlier, Chandrè Boshoff and Kiersten Tambe were named the CAA Women's Doubles Team after posting a 3-0 record at No. 1 doubles.

This is the first time that Towson has had multiple conference Players of the Week since 2016 when Lucy Wiliams and Barbora Vasilkova both earned Player of the Week honors. 

CLIMBING THE CHARTS
With a victory over Georgetown on February 20, head coach Jamie Peterson moved into third place on the all-time wins list with 79 victories – passing Doug Neagle. Only Ken Volk (106 wins) and Peter Walten (86) have more coaching wins with the Towson University women's tennis program.

DID YOU KNOW?
Peterson was two-time team captain on the Towson men's tennis team from 1991-95 and finished his career with a 64-35 record, the fourth-most wins and fourth-best winning percentage in program history. He led the Tigers to back-to-back appearances in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championship in 1993 and 1994.

INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR
Half of the roster was born outside of the United States. Boshoff hails from George, South Africa, which is 8,100 miles from campus. Montecchi is a native of Bango a Ripoli, Italy which is 4,300 miles from Towson. Murray and Tamzin Pountney were born and raised in England, 3,500 miles from campus. Chloe Courtnage is from Calgary, Canada, which is 2,300 miles away. 

FALL '25 RECAP
During the fall semester, the Tigers played in four events and defeated Rider in a head-to-head match. In addition, Montecchi, Tambe and Boshoff qualified for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Regional Championship in October.
