TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team faced Coppin State on Tuesday afternoon at John B. Schuerholz Park.
Four Towson (11-14) players posted multiple RBIs as the Tigers' offense scored 18 runs over the first four innings to balloon an early lead over Coppin State (4-19). The Eagles scored their first run of the game in the seventh inning before ultimately going down, 18-1, in seven innings at Schuerholz Park.
Key Stats:
- Towson starter Aidan Sites (2-0) earned the win after tossing 3.0 shutout frames in the prearranged bullpen day. Sites struck out one and walked one.
- Coppin State starter Abel Ortiz (0-1) took the loss, allowing six earned runs on eight hits in 2.0 frames. Ortiz struck out two and walked one.
How it Happened:
- The Tigers took an early lead with three runs on four hits in the bottom of the first inning. Nick LoBello hit a leadoff double to right field before stealing third base. Keldrin Rodriguez followed with a single to left center, plating LoBello. Rodriguez scored later in the inning on a Frank Adamski Jr. sacrifice fly. Brady Nathison plated the final run of the frame on a double to left.
- In the second, AJ Kolb walked, stole second, took third on a wild pitch and scored on a balk to add to the lead. K. Rodriguez hit a two-run home run to right center field, making it a 6-0 Tiger lead.
- Towson scored nine runs on four hits in the third inning. Most notably, LoBello's two RBI double with a third run scoring on an error and Adamski Jr.'s bases-clearing triple in the right center gap.
- The Tigers added three more runs in the fourth, extending the lead to 18 runs.
- The Eagles scored one run in the seventh inning on Noah Hogan's infield single to first base. After that, the final two outs in the top of the seventh were retired, giving the Tigers an 18-1 victory on their home field.
Inside the Numbers:
- LoBello finished the game 2-for-5 with 2 RBIs and two runs scored. His four-game hitting streak is currently the longest active streak on the team.
- K. Rodriguez went 2-for-2 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored. He posted his fifth multi-RBI game of the season for a share of the team lead.
