TOWSON, Md.- Victories in five of the six singles matches helped the Towson University women's tennis team defeat Monmouth 6-1 in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) action on Tuesday afternoon at the Tiger Tennis Complex.
For the third straight match, Towson (8-9, 2-4 CAA) captured the doubles point with wins on courts 1 and 2.
After Monmouth (2-12, 0-3 CAA) won on court 3, the Tigers top duo of
Kiersten Tambe and
Chandrè Boshoff were victorious at No. 1 – winning 6-4. The home team clinched the point with a 7-5 victory by sophomores
Aubrey Carper and
Chloe Courtnage at No. 2.
Boshoff gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead after a dominating 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.
The Tigers clinched the match with identical 7-6, 6-1 victories by
Ashira Murray (No. 5) and
Gaia Montecchi (No. 2). The duo are now a combined 25-8 in singles play this season. Montecchi (13-4) has 12 straight set victories, while Murray (12-4) is 7-0 on court 5.
Towson took a 5-0 advantage when
Sania Suchinsky won 7-5, 6-3 at No. 6. The senior, who missed 12 matches this spring because of a battle with
mononucleosis, improved to 12-5 lifetime on court 6.
Tambe made the score 6-0 with a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 victory at No. 1.
"We won another key doubles point with Aubrey and Chloe clinching for the third straight time," Towson head coach
Jamie Peterson said. "Other than Chandrè, all of the singles players had to battle, but most were able to grind out wins. I am proud of the way we battled through adversity."
