Towson Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Temple in Overtime

TOWSON, Md. - The Towson University women's lacrosse team hosted Temple on Wednesday afternoon at Tiger Field. The Tigers (1-5, 0-0 CAA) fell to the Owls (8-0, 0-0 The American) 13-12 in overtime.

Hannah Lewis led the Tigers with five goals. Katie Roszko followed with a hat trick, reaching 100 career points as a junior. Elise Smigiel added two goals, while Hailey Waldron and Tabi Reardon each contributed one.

  • Temple outshot Towson, 37-35. 
  • Jenna Cardeno finished with 14 saves on the day, while the Owls totaled seven. 
  • Temple had the edge in draw controls, 14-13. 
  • Towson had 12 turnovers compared to only nine for Temple. 

How it Happened vs. Temple 

  • Towson opened the game in control, netting five goals in the first quarter and marking the first time this season that the team has scored first in a game. 
  • Temple answered in the second, matching Towson with five goals, but the Tigers tacked on four more to take a 9-5 lead into halftime. 
  • The Owls carried that momentum into the third quarter, scoring five times to even the game at 10-10.
  • Hannah Lewis accounted for Towson's lone goal of the period, sending the teams into the final quarter tied. 
  • Hailey Waldron struck first in the fourth off a free position attempt, and Elise Smigiel followed less than a minute later to give Towson a two-goal cushion.
  • Temple responded with 3:31 remaining as Sabrina Martin converted on a free position opportunity, and Laura Connor added the equalizer just 30 seconds later. 
  • After trading possessions in the closing minutes of regulation without a goal, the game moved to overtime. 
  • Towson controlled the draw and earned two free position attempts but was unable to capitalize. Temple ultimately secured the 13-12 win on a free position goal.
