TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team faced Central Connecticut State for the second time in the Towson Tiger Invite on Saturday.
Olivia Trombley's second complete game shutout of the weekend set the tone, and a four-run 6
th sealed an 8-0 six inning win for Towson's seventh straight victory.
Key Stats:
- Leah Mears hit a leadoff homerun, the first homer of her career.
- Mackenzie Gorczyca and Addie Ferguson each had multiple hits and RBIs.
- Every Towson starter had at least one hit.
- Olivia Trombley earned her sixth win of the season, matching her total from last season, after pitching her second complete game shutout in as many days allowing four hits with a career high ten strikeouts.
- Grace Granate receives the loss after pitching 5.2 innings and allowing twelve hits and eight runs.
How it Happened:
- After Olivia Trombley struck out the side in the top of the 1st, Leah Mears led off the home half of the opening frame with a solo homer to put Towson up early.
- Trombley ended the 2nd inning with six strikeouts.
- After a scoreless 2nd inning, the Tigers hit three straight one-out singles in the bottom of the 3rd with the third coming from Mackenzie Gorczyca who knocked in Towson's second run.
- Trombley picked up her eighth and ninth strikeouts in the top of the 4th.
- The Tigers put two on with two outs in the bottom of the 4th for Addie Ferguson who doubled down the line to double Towson's lead and make it 4-0 after four.
- After both teams went down in order in the 5th, Trombley recorded her career high tenth strikeout in the top of the 6th.
- A leadoff walk and bunt single put the first two Tigers on in the bottom of the 6th for Kaci Benton who hit an RBI double to score one and put two more in scoring position. After two groundouts Mackenzie Gorczyca hit the second double of the inning to score two more and make it 7-0.
- The next batter Isabella Canesi hit a RBI double of her own to put Towson up 8-0 and end the game in the 6th.
